Default Bad service advice

The Toyota dealer I go to recommended a coolant flush because they it looks like it hasn't been done in a while. I took it in for an oil change and tire rotation. I held off because I knew i had it done recently and sure enough, had it done at 99k at a Toyota in Kentucky back in November and the car has 110k now. Do these guys randomly just try to steer you to something that you don't need for the business or something?

That upselling tactic is well known in the industry. Most of time female customers are easy target. Many crooked service guys out there too. Don't need to waste time and money on things not needed. I am getting old yet I can do oil change, tire rotation, etc. myself.

yeah I just simply checked my service history online when I got home and sure enough here it was. I sent the advisor an email with the services done in Nov just to show him I was ready for something like this. When I set the appointment there last week, a guy said I needed a transmission flush. I'll check that out too. I have 110k and can't see where it was done or if it's necessary. Everything seems to be running fine.

Happened to me a few times at our Honda dealer too (2006 Odyssey). So it's not just female customers, but my wife did get so disgusted at how she was treated like a retard when she took it in (her vehicle) that she made me take it in for service :-) And we get all our service done there so they had no excuse at all for not having the history. The other thing our Honda dealer likes to push is alignments.

She traded it in last year for a Highlander, and didn't even think about looking at the new Pilot due to her dealer experience. Our first Toyota service visit? They wanted $20 to wash the car (at least the Honda dealer washed for free with service), and screwed up the oil change and we had oil all over our garage that night.

So far, in 7+ years I haven't had any trouble at my Lexus dealer. Yeah they charge more, but it's made me want to get another Lexus.

FYI this car does not have the ability to have the transmission flushed. It is like a manual transmission and all you can do is drain and fill it. It holds about 4 quarts and you just fill it up until fluid comes out of the fill hole. I could do it at home in less than 30 minutes. The service writer was again trying to upsell something that was not even applicable to your car! It is worth doing a transmission fluid change if it has not been done and you have 100,000 miles. I only have 60,000 but have done it twice, but I only have to pay for fluid and do it myself.
