My mom picked up a HS in 2010 when they first came out. She liked the car alot but she already has the itch to get something new even though the HS only has 50k miles on it.
The trade in offered to her was only 8k. So I decided to take it instead of selling it for so little. Its a decent car, so I don't mind taking it.

My question is, I find the audio system kind of lacking. I want to upgrade, but I'm guessing its complicated since its a 10 speaker setup and runs off a factory amp.
Is it worth it to try and upgrade the audio setup? I'd like to maybe put some 6x9's in the front, some 6in components in the rear doors, keep the 8in free air sub? and add a 12in subwoofer in the trunk to add alot of low end.
I installed alot of headunits, and amplifiers back in the 90's, when car manufactures didn't intergrate so many things into the factory headunit. It was alot easier back then.. You didn't lose abunch of functions just because you switched out the head unit.
Is there anything special about installing into a hybrid vs a reg combustion only vehicle?

At the least I plan to add a sub, but it would be nice to get the internals beefed up alittle bit too.
Does anyone have examples of what they did I can look at?

It was a lot easier back then when all you did is slide a DIN or double DIN head unit right in, add some amps, different speakers and it sounded great. Not so easy these days with everything integrated into the radio. Especially with the premium HS with NAV.

By using the factory wires, you could probably change out the speakers, add a sub, maybe change the amp, but I doubt you can do much, or there's much out there for the head unit.

The factory speakers are probably set to the factory crossover frequencies from the amplifier. I do not know if that data is available. You may want to stick with factory sizes and find better replacements. I looked at Crutchfield online but they have not researched the HS250h, probably because sales are so low!
You could go to an online OEM Lexus parts dealer such as www.mylparts.com or www.lexuspartsnow.com to research the OEM speaker sizes.

The complicated part is replacing the amp.
The factory amp has 8 or 10 channels.
I may just try to replace all the speakers with more sensitive speakers and try to squeeze as much as I can out of the factory amp.
Why does this have to be so complicated...

Because they wanted you to buy the Mark Levinson upgrade?

I've never heard anything other than the regular 10 speaker setup.
If the mark levinson parts weren't that expensive, I'd just pick those up and switch over. Keeping that factory amp wiring would save so much time.
