Default Trying to buy a HS250/Dealership question..am I wrong?

Hi all! I am new to club lexus. I need to know if I am being overly paranoid about this particular car and the dealership selling it to me. It is a 2010 HS 250h Premium, $12,995, 65,800k miles, all black with alot of wood trim in the front (more wood trim than I've seen inside any lexus car) and its beautiful with black leather seats. I was almost in a rush to fork out money. Until I asked the dealer if I can have a mechanic thats specializes in hybrid and luxury vehicles come check out the car. The dealer told me absolutely not. He told me all the mechanic would do was tell me this and that is wrong with the car and that the last time someone had a mechanic look at their cars, that mechanic poked a hole in the tires. He told me just do a warranty. He said all he could offer is a 1 year warranty.

I am very concerned about any potential battery issues and other things that could possible go wrong. I am a female so I'm not interested in changing batteries myself. He told me that I can buy batteries for $700 dollars and find a mobile mechanic that can come to my house and fix it. I asked was their a 100,000k warranty on the vehicle and he said no, he said Lexus only does 36,000 mile warranty. This dealership just did not do a good job on guaranteeing me that this will be a safe purchase after denying my mechanic to check it. I don't want to have to fork over money to them, then two years later have battery issues or other problems. Am I being overly paranoid? Please advise me on what the safest bet would be? Should I walk away. They are really rushing me on this purchase. Their was a guy trying to buy it before me but he decided to walk away from the deal as well. i really like this car. What should I do? What issues or future problems should expect out of the HS 250? I just don't want this to be a headache on the battery issue as well.

Thanks for your help guys!

Are you still looking at this vehicle? The cars are great, but this dealership sounds like it is deserving of suspicion. I wouldn't worry about the main drive battery, especially with this low number of miles, but the starting batteries Occasionally do have to be replaced. Replacing a starting battery is no big deal. Do you have pictures of this particular car, assuming you're still looking at it?

The HS250 is actually a very good / reliable car. I've had my 2010 Premium for 7+ years and over 100k miles, with only one failed part (O2 sensor). But I really would be wary of any dealer that won't let you have a mechanic inspect it. Sounds like a shady used car dealer to me. I always recommend having a mechanic (not tied to the dealer) inspect a used car, looking for signs of abuse/neglect. Most will charge $75-100, but IMO it's worth it. Buying an extended warranty, in addition to costing you money, doesn't stop you from having a car die on the highway or spend time in a shop.

One thought - you said it had tons of wood trim inside. Mine only has small bits in the door switch areas, and some on top of the cup holders. It's actually a lot less than I've seen on ES350's and RX350's. If you have a lot more than that, it's aftermarket. Makes me wonder what other mods were done? Tying that back to the dealer balking at a mechanic check, I'd be real suspicious...

The hybrid drivetrain, battery etc has an 8 year 100,000 mile warranty that is in addtion to the regular vehicle warranty. Did this shady dealer show you the CarFAX report?
