Excessive engine oil consumption
Just had my 2010 HS oil changed at 70K at a shop. The mechanic showed me the dip stick and the oil is way below the lower dot which is about 2 qt short. The previous oil change was 60K and I did bring the car in for the excessive oil consumption recall more than a year ago.
Like to find out if anyone else experienced the same abnormal oil consumption after the recall repair?? At the mean time, I will start checking the dip stick every 2-3K.

Good luck. But I think they'll leave you in the dark, like they did so many others, though.

You should check your oil level every few gas fill ups. 2 quarts low can cause some increased wear and deteriorate the remaining oil much faster. I noticed my 2011 is starting to use oil more than it used to. I just added half a quart this morning. I think it is only at the rate of about a quart every 3,000 miles. I would rather add oil than pay for a new engine. I need to check if they are included in any oil TSB. I thought the same engine in the RAV4 also had this issue and got an extended warranty but you had to have the dealer do a mileage check, they would top off the oil, seal the oil filler cap and have you return after so many miles to check it. This happened to my friend with a 2007 RAV4 that started sucking oil. She decided to trade it in for a 2014 instead.
Way back when I started driving using a quart every 1,000 miles was normal!

Thanks for the reminder - I usually get mine done around 7500 miles and I'm now at 8000. Luckily my oil is still about midway between the two dots on the dipstick. My 2010 just went over the 100k mark. Will be nice to have them wash this yellow pollen off the car too.

I have the same problem with my 2006 lexus gs 300. It is burning oil at a rapid speed. I don't think I will ever purchase another lexus they have to get their crap together.
Having have production numbers and putting out poor performing cars will catch up with them and sales will decline as long as we keep putting the word out.

Just jumping in to share in the chorus since this is the most recent discussion on the topic.
2010 HS, 122K miles, I went a little long between changes (10,000, but I am using full synth) and I was 2 quarts low. After my dipstick pump stopped producing oil, I went and removed the plug and filter. Drips, but not much else. I pulled out every quart of oil that was left, and I know I had put in 4.5 quarts the last time.
If you still have an HS, it seems like you're going to burn through a bit of oil, so either plan on sticking religiously to a 3000 plan, or top it off periodically.

I change my oil and oil filter on my HS every 5K miles and I add a can of Restore which slows down the oil consumption. There are other additives as well so far Restore works the best for my case.

Has the Restore improved gas mileage?
Reduced oil consumption by how much?
Any engine performance improvements?
Caused any issues with emissions controls? I read that it contains lead which can damage catalytic converters etc.

Prior to using Restore I would consume two quarts of oil for every 5K mile oil change interval and using Restore I now consume 1 quart of oil for every 5K mile oil change.
Engine feels and sounds solid as oppose to tiny knocks without the Restore additive.
I haven't had any issues with emission control. I do use Chevron premium gas and from time to time I'll use Redline fuel system cleaner. Red Line Fuel System Cleaner 60103 | O'Reilly Auto Parts (oreillyauto.com)

I use Redline too, or Techron which is similar.
I think you are wasting money running premium on this Atkinson cycle engine, especially with recent gas prices. What does it get you except less money in your wallet.
Does it run better? faster? better mileage to offset the cost increase? Just curious.
I just hit 98,000 on my HS and am about to do a yearly oil change since we only put about 4800 miles on it this last year. Averaging 33 mpg but I am a terrible gas hog and floor it too much in power mode. My wife gets better mileage. I need an electric car...

Any additional news on the oil consumption front? Is there any extended warranty work available from Lexus if our vehicles are consuming oil? For info, Our 2010 HS250h is passing 105,000 miles. I am 6,500 miles and ten months from my last oil change, so far no consumption. Our vehicle has had a 60/40% mix of mostly city driving. For those folks who are having oil consumption, what fixes have worked for you?

I don't know how common the oil consumption is. Yes some complain about it but all those who don't have the issue have nothing to post about so are silent. My 2010 is at 134k, with almost 3K on the current oil (I replace it once a year with annual inspection in Dec) and the dipstick still reads full. Oil is whatever the Lexus dealer uses - either full synthetic or a mix. If you're not having a problem so far, likely you are good to go for normal oil changes and nothing to worry about.
