Yeah, I still plan to pull one off and check it out at some point. Just haven't had the time to bother with it. Like you said, there's not even a brake light, so it's almost more decoration than purposeful. The dealer told me it would still pass inspection. So this is pretty far down my list of projects, including watching football :-)
Quick question, does the 2nd Gen HS250h tail light fit in the first Gen's? I was looking at pictures and it almost seems like that's all they have changed: front bumper spindle grille and rear tube lights.
Those tubes lights in the second gen makes the car look so much more sophisticated. Maybe you can get a set from Japanese?

Like these? They look like the same shape. But good luck finding a set, and I hope your pockets are deep.
Just replaced the rear LED tail light assembly on my 2010 HS250h. $230. 2 burnt out LEDs; one burnt out LED in each of two groups of 3 LEDs in series. Here's what they look like.

Looks to me, by the pictures, that it might be one resistor per each three LED banks. So it might not be the resistor. And from the looks of how those LED's are mounted, it might be just broken connection on those two LED's.
That's my guess from just looking.
Did you have to break the tail light assemble apart to get to them, or can they be put back together? From the first picture, it looks like the two parts were glued together.

after adding more LEDs
Separate the assembly by heated air ( it takes about 40 mints), and checked the wiring and there was a disconnected wires. Just soldering the pole again and that’s it.
It seems if 1 LED Bulb is missing, the whole row wilt run off, the soldering can be broke due to opening and closing the trunk.Anyway I have added extra bulbs to the whole assembly and it looks much more better.
I just noticed my burnt out LED's out back while getting an alignment. So all what's causing then not to work is a broken solder connection inside the tail light?
