complimentary service and oil change schedule

Hi,
Didn't have much of a chance to ask the salesman much questions, it was almost 10pm and I had to go.

The manual states that we get the 1000 mile check up and 5000 mile oil change for free. And Oil changes every 5000 miles.

I remember my salesman saying something about the first 2 services as free. Here's what it says in my Lexus survey email. It says that at 5000 miles, I get a checkup and they change the oil at 10,000K. What's going on, this is an official Lexus email, not from my dealer.

Lexus provides you with first and second complimentary maintenance services. The first complimentary service at six months or 5,000 miles includes: inspection and adjustment of all fluid levels, tire rotation, brake inspection, road test, reminder light reset and programming of Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS). LPS allows customization of a variety of the vehicle's electronic features. The second complimentary service at twelve months or 10,000 miles includes: engine oil and oil filter replacement, tire rotation, brake inspection, road-test, and reminder light reset. We invite you to allow your dealership to perform these two complimentary services.

Your manual was printed before the maintenance change and is citing the old service schedule. Currently, on the HS, Lexus takes care of the inspection, LPS and an abbreviated 5K at 5000 miles. They also take care of the 10,000 mile service which includes the first oil change.

After that, the services ending in '5' do not include an oil change. The services ending in '0' do.

My dealer told me that at 1000 and 5000 the service is free. They did not mention the 10,000 mile service.

Should I do the 1000 mile service or just wait for the 5000 and then the 10,000? I'm guessing if I do the 1000 service and the 5000, I would have to pay for the 10,000.

my dealer said the same thing - only the 5k is free. The 1k is only to "inspect" the car and perform any customizations - the dealer told me not many people bother with the 1k (and I didn't).

I had the 1K mi. check when the brake recall was done, of course at no charge :eek2:.

Originally the maintenance on the HS250h was going to follow the traditional Lexus pattern of a maintenance service performed every 5,000 miles and the maintenance guides were printed reflecting this intention. This pattern would have included the 1K/LPS and the 5K as being complimentary services.

However, after the initial printing of the 2010 HS owner's guide Lexus changed the maintenance recommendations to include synthetic oil, 10,000 mile oil change intervals, and a revised guide that was mailed out to owners reflected this.

To maintain continuity with the new intentions, the complimentary services were changed as well. The LPS is performed during the complimentary 5K, which does not include an oil change and the 10K service has also become complimentary and includes the first scheduled oil change.

Some dealers have had to provide an additional complimentary service to customers that had the 5k performed before the change in maintenance intervals was fully underway.

Tires are still to be rotated along with other services every 5,000 miles, so there is still a service every 5,000 miles, just half of them do not include an oil change. When the oil change is performed, 0W20 synthetic oil is the recommended weight and type.

So what are people paying for the 5k and 10k services once the complimentary ones are used up?

I'm coming from European cars, but I heard Lexus was even more expensive. The dealer tried to sell me a discount package of pre-paid scheduled service, saying it would cost $3000 over 4 years/60k otherwise!

I'm on my 3rd lease Lexus, when I first walked in to do my 10K oil change on the first car, since the 5K was free. They wanted about $100 for it, so I restarted my engine, went to the auto parts store and started doing myself. Full synthetic oil change for under $30, of course the hassle of doing it yourself and disposing of the oil but I'm cheap like that and I refuse to get taken advantage of. I made a picture guide in the GS forum for my car and I will do the same when the time comes for the HS but it's probably a year away since no oil change is needed until 10K. I keep good records to prove all oil changes, just the receipt for the oil and filter and the upc from the oil filter box. Never had a problem when I turned in the car at the end of lease. The HS should be easy to oil change because it uses a canister oil filter, not just the filter you change out like the RX and GS.
