Morning all.

Well the baby did great at her first day of daycare.

she didn't go all baby jack jack on anyone, so that's a good sign.

First (and probably last) day for awhile that I will quite literally be doing nothing.

My niece Isabel is meeting with a surgeon today about removing a tumor on her thyroid. She is 18. Her parents have already lost one child, and nobody knows if this is cancer or not.

So sorry Josh... I'll be thinking of Isabel today.

Sitting in the nuke medicine lab mostly naked awaiting my stress test. I hate these sessions, gasping for air, while the nerds stare at their screens .Yes I'm dead, why?

I still smell fresh thread around here . . . Or is it all the chemicals?

Thanks bit. Its a bit early to be thinking the worst, but in my experience its better to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best, than it is to just deny that the worst is even a possibility.

Her mother isn't handling it well, at all. Her dad is staying busy with the family business as usual, I don't think he thinks its as bad as it may be. Isabel, suprisingly, doesn't seem all that worried about it. She's whip smart, and just a doll. We all love her to death, so until we know more, all we can do is pray.

Holding Isabel in prayer, Josh! . . . For an accurate diagnosis, skilled hands, sharp minds, and peaceful hearts.

On the home front, I've been blitzed with enough sub-atomic particles to allow me to glow in the dark. Tomorrow we do it all over again to see if there is any change. By then I should be able to shoot thunderbolts from my fingertips.

Reminds me of this exchange from Braveheart:

"Young Soldier: William Wallace is seven feet tall!
William Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his ****."

LOL

I picked up a few tips in dealing with buying textbooks from my early college days.
- Plan ahead. Most people are looking to offload textbooks for cheap at the end of the previous academic period to the beginning of the current period.
- Never buy textbooks before the first day of class. Instead, use the first day of class to find out which textbooks you do/don't need.
- Find out if the most recent previous edition works.
- Scour the campus for "Textbooks for Sale" ads. Prices are usually negotiable.
- If the textbook is offered in a digital format, chances are you can download it for a nominal fee (or better, free)

The problem on the textbook front is nowadays most textbooks require access codes to a web based software of some sort. Those codes are one time use, and you only get one if you buy the textbook new, unless you want to pay 3/4 (or more) the price of said new textbook, just to buy an as access code.

case in point, the book for my Management 315 class is $372 with an access code to MyManagementLab. The MML code alone? $300. The book used is still over $200, renting is about $175.

so if your professors require the access code (most do), you are better off just buying the combo pack. Its such a facking racket.

They sent Isabel home from the hospital today, and she is on her way back to the ER in an ambulance right now. She collapsed at home about 15 mins ago. Her calcium levels are 16, which can send her into multiple organ failure if they dont get it down.
