Default Auto Tilt Reverse Side mirror issue

Hey fellas.
I notice that whenever I put the GX in reverse, the driver side view mirror doesn't come down all the way like the passenger side view mirror.
The driver side view mirror only tilt down half way and its bothering me. I try to play with it but its still behaving the same way. I read somewhere on a different thread where the dealer had to replace the motor...Hope that is not the case with me.

Any thoughts guys ?

Thanks

Yup, "common" failure for the GX. I've got one on order from the stealership ... it's been so long now that I wonder if they didn't order it or I somehow missed their call. Oops, gotta get that figured out.

If I recall correctly, the service manager said it also happens a bunch on the GS.

If you guys are under warranty, this should be replaced for free. There is a TSB about this issue.

ha this seems to be a common problem on all Lexus'. its a known problem with the crappy parts inside the mirror which dont allow it to tilt down anymore.

Lightbulb Cheap Fix

I just finished fixing both mirrors on my `08 GX. Total cost = $12 + 2 hours work.
I`m a pretty handy guy so if you`re not capable of handling a philips screwdriver and electronic connectors, please do not try this.

I bought a can of `Electronics Contact Cleaner` for $12 at my local electronic supplier. Took the whole thing apart with the aid of the TSIB provided by lexus (Attached PDF file). NOTE: You do not need to disconnect the battery during this procedure; however make sure your car is turned off the whole time you`re working on this.

I used the Contact Cleaner and sprayed every electronic component I found inside the Actuator, greased the plastic parts and put it back together.

My mirrors are now working perfectly fine

Good Luck!!

Mine also had the TSB performed under a previous owner.

I had an 06 GS (which has the auto-titling mirrors--I thought they were annoying & turned that function off, since I knew they would eventually break and I'd have to pay $$$ to get them fixed).

I never knew our GX had the auto-titling mirrors, though, literally until I read this post...guessing the previous owner of mine turned the function off, too. I never really saw the point in having the mirrors tilt down since both of mine had/have NAV & the back-up cams.

Thanks SimSimGX ! I also had the passenger side mirror issue. Took it apart following the TSB, sprayed some electronics cleaner on every part I could get to, re-lubed the moving parts with white grease, re-assembled, and now it works like new. Total cost = $0 since I already had the cleaner and grease. GX Forum rocks. Jeff

This happens to my GX as well. I now wonder if it is designed to tilt the driver's mirror. I'll try SimSimGX's fix when I have time.

If the Mirror adjustment switch is to the left both mirrors should tilt when in reverse.
If the Switch is in the right position only the passenger side should tilt.
If the switch is in the middle nothing should happen when in reverse.
