Default Do You Hate Your 550?

We have had our Lux+ GX550 for 7 months now. Just hitting 5K miles - people just dont like driving it. We love the look, but the driving experience is just not great and whenever someone needs to go somewhere they just think it is easier to jump in one of our other cars - too much hassle on the Lexus. Issues we are seeing:

Huge hood shake at highway speeds.
Stereo sound fades in and out
Massage seats not working
A "whistle" at 65MPH - think it is actually driveline related
Brakes squeal like crazy when used while reversing
Drivers side door rattling
Heat on auto settings that on one day blazes you out and has to be turned down to 60 degrees to keep from roasting, and then next turned up to 80 the next day to keep from freezing.
Gas gauge that starts pinging you when you actually have about a quarter tank left
Other random annoying things

A lot of this can be shook out during the 5K service, but it has taken the fun/confidence out of the car. I have a 10 year old chevy pickup that has less issues.

Has anyone seen all these issues and worked through them?

Default No I Don't hate mine.

Hi.

I've had my GX Overtrail Plus since July 2024 and have over 8K miles, purchased at Lexus of Melbourne.

The hood issues doesn't bother me, I don't think I would have noticed if but for a forum post.

The brakes were replaced by my dealership at no cost, no more squealing.

The passenger side seat message was also fixed by my dealership, have not had an issues since.

I'm not having any issues with rattling, weird noises, problems with heat (being thoroughly tested this week in Florida), or A/C.

No cracked windshield which I read is occurring with some owners.

No problems with paint.

I do admit the stereo is not as good as I hoped but works just as good as my Gen2 GX.

Overall I'm happy with mine but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

I'm sorry you are having a bad experience with yours.

Jus had my 5k service, and i could say that i'm having better luck than you with my GX.

No hood shakes
Brakes squealed but soon after 3k, they went away. Dealer is willing to replace them, but for the life of me, They and I cannot replicate. LOL
I have the basic 10 speaker system and am happy with the sound. Heard thew screwed the pooch with the Mark Levinson pacakge.
Lifted and on Bigger 33' tires and have no abnormal squeak or whistling noises.
I had the radio reset on me once while driving, but it hasn't happened again.
Climate control works and seats cool and heat up well. No massage on mine, but heard that was an easy fix.
Toyota/Lexus typically have a generous fill light, I feel better at driving when low knowing there is a healthy reserve
no issues with digital key and often use iphone access and remote controls for the car

Default Love mine

I picked mine up yesterday morning and drove it home 250 miles in the rain in Southern California through LA traffic. My first impression is that everything works perfectly and love the vehicle. The suspension is tighter than my other vehicle which was also body on frame so it gives it a little more of a rough ride. But the steering is tight and very easy to drive. my massaging seats work terrific I actually had to turn down the intensity because it hurt. Mark Levinson sound system works fantastic. One of the best I’ve ever had in a vehicle.

I think for every person not enjoying the GX, there are probably 10 completely happy owners

Hopefully, I'll see you around in So Cal. I think I've only seen 3 outside the dealership while driving around.

I'll be the Nori Green with Black Vossens and LC rack in the Burbank area

Got my OT in Nov. I now have just shy of 3700 miles. This is the best riding BOF truck I've owned. I also wouldn't have noticed the hood flutter if I hadn't read about it online. Yes, the brakes squeal, but its fixable. I'm okay with a healthy reserve in the fuel tank.

Bottom line, I don't hate my GX550, I absolutely love it.

I got my OT+ in December and so far, love driving it. I traded in a 2019 4Runner for it so I am used to driving a vehicle of this size. The GX is much easier to drive and more comfortable.

I do have a couple of minor issues. I get the occasional brake squeal when backing out of the garage after not driving it for a few days. The squeal goes away after driving a while. I have crossbars on the top rails that make wind noise at highway speeds.

These are correctable issues.

Only thing I hate so far is the gas mileage compared to what I came from (a Honda). Other than that, all great.

My gas mileage is lousy too but I'm hoping after the vehicle gets broken in that it will improve. I didn't buy the GX for fuel economy but an improvement there would be nice.

Keep in mind too, you bought the first year model. Even Lexus/Toyota isn’t immune to first year woes.

Default GX Hybrid?

When will GX Hybrid be available. Not going for a LX700H that doesn't even have a 14" screen; has disappointing storage space; and is ridiculously priced.

The only difference with the GX hybrid would be the 14” screen. You’d still have the disappointing storage space, a ridiculous additional cost, and added to boot, the land cruiser prado 4 cylinder hybrid powertain.

Sounds like you don't think much of the 4 cylinder hybrid powertrain. Why is that? I am here lurking and waiting specifically for that power train. Looking for a replacement SUV for my wife who currently drives a 2018 Volvo XC-90 T6. The T6 engine is a 4 banger with turbo + super charger, which makes 316hp & 295lb-ft. It drives with enough pep for our family hauling needs. So if Lexus uses the i-Force Max 4 cylinder hybrid engine which puts out 326hp & 465lb-ft, it is going to be more than enough for folks like me who are not looking to burn rubber with a family SUV.

..Do you also need the 3rd row since the GX hybrid might NOT have it? People complain that the 4-banger hybrid in the Landcruiser is not refined when being pushed hard.
