Oil Consumption
#31
You know as a new owner of a 2019 GX I find this absurd. I have a 2001 Chevrolet base Tahoe that I bought new in the year 2000 and it measures cold starts, distance, etc to determine oil change intervals. Good grief --Toyota's premier line is not up to Chevrolet technology from almost 20 years ago?!

Ssshhhhh! Some here thinks Toyota engineers are incompetent fools.....

Lead Lap
Op asked about oil consumption on a new motor, learned about oil change intervals, blackstone oil lab tests, oil life monitors, G force loading, buying airplanes.

OP also bemoaned the GX not having the ability to provide distance to next oil change, which it has. Read the manual.

The "particulates" are not harmful......and if they are big enough to matter, then the filter catches them. This is why NO car manufacturers recommend such practices. None. And this is why i have issues with some of your "certified master mechanic" recommendations (tires, shocks, and now oil)....most of what you say is not based on facts or physics.

Back on topic, my GX is getting close to 100,000 miles, and I notice no consumption and I typically run my oil for 10,000 miles. However that doesn't stop me from bringing an extra quart with me on long trips. With a new 2019 and a long trip, I'd probably bring along a sealed quart just in case, though I very much doubt you'll need it.
I do my own changes. Drain & refill with a filter is stated as 8.2qts in the manual. I put in about 8qts every time and about 8qts come out. I have never added oil between changes.
FYI the Lexus maintenance schedule on the GX is a change of oil & filter every 10,000 miles, but the maintenance reminder in the car will come up every 5,000 miles. The first 5k is an "inspection" aka pulling out the dipstick.
Also FWIW, the manual states that normal consumption can be up to 1L per 1,000km, or 1.1qt per 600 miles, which seems terribly excessive. Again, I don't experience this.

Your incessant request for facts while applying absolutely no logic to your (non-fact based) perspective is comical ... so apparently particles that are too small to be caught by the oil filter do not produce any meaningful wear ... now that makes complete sense ?#? ... even when applying the false assumption that oil filters have 100% efficiency at their filtration rating across all rated particle sizes. Let's see what Amsoil has to say ...

Again.....NO CAR MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS 1000 mile change. None. Nada. Zero.

Because dealers do NOT want to make more money!! Who the hell wants to take money from customers after only 1000 miles on their new car??!! Not just Lexus, but every damn dealer from every car manufacturer just hate making money!!
Is that how a "certified master mechanic" screws his customer? And you wonder why there is such mistrust of mechanics these days....

Seriously ? What are your credentials ? ... other than the blind belief that auto manufacturers have your interest above their (limited) warranty period interest. Beyond that, they don't care how long your engine lasts. All of your arguments assume that everyone else has a vested interest, but not the manufacturer. Incredibly naive logic (that has no basis in fact).
