Serpentine/V-belt replacement
Hi guys. I'm the one that just changed the steering rack on the GX460.
The serpentine belt was off when I got it and I don't see a diagram anywhere under the hood and no manual in the glove box.
Can anyone give me or link me to a belt routing diagram? There are WAY too many pulleys to guess, I'd never get it right.
Thanks in advance,
Wayne

Thank you! I actually googled it and found it, much to my surprise. Google has gotten terrible for all the garbage on it. You search for a wiring diagram for an 02 Grand Am and it'll pull up an 05 silverado....just goofy!
Thanks though, that was exactly what I found.

Usually pretty easy with the auto tensioners. I haven't looked at tensioner on GX but on another car a 1/2 socket drive us used to release tension and then I used a L shaped Hex key to hold in place.
If Idler Pulley and Belt Tensions need to be replaced

I don't recall when this is recommended in the manual. Looks easy enough but my GX is my only source of transportation. If I had another ride I would change this out along with spark plugs and other mechanic DIY. If I got frustrated I could take my other ride to work but all of my needed work equipment is in my GX, I have played this game when I had my MDX and it is frustrating to move from one vehicle to another for me
Simple things (subjective) become mentally difficult when it MUST be immediately accomplished and supposed simple things can become a hassle.
I would really like to accomplish this on my own just for personal satisfaction.

It doesn’t appear service guide shows replacement but shows inspection at each service interval.
It says:
“Drive Belt
Inspect for cracks, excessive wear and oiliness. Check the belt tension and adjust if necessary. Replace the belts if they are damaged.”

At 124K miles I prefer to replace it. If this breaks I am screwed.. .While Lexus is reliable, Belts and hoses have a limited life and yes there are factors on the wear. Just want to be proactive here. Probably a 1 time thing for me and piece of mind.

I would replace it too.

At 124k miles, you could also replace the fan pulley bracket too while you’re there.

Looks awfully tight in there. I'm due to do mine in 5k when my rig hits 120k... I was eyeballing it awhile back and it seems like it might be a challenge just due to the lack of space.

I can’t say I have looked closely at what it would take. I would imagine you want to take lower skid off as well as the top plastics. With tensioner pressure released belt should be fairly loose.

If you remove the fan, there’s plenty of room. I didn’t do the work but gave it to a friend when replacing the waterpump.
I didn’t recall it took that long either. The old belt looked really good at 45k miles, no strays or micro cracks. It could be passed as new.

Why are the 2 belt diagrams above different?
