Default Curt 13043 Install Help

I ordered the Curt 13043 hitch and plan on towing a 6x8 trailer fairly often with me 2011GX with oem airbags. I test fit the hitch but have some questions for those that have this installed.

The instructions don't address the following two questions I have:

1. Should the conical tooth side of the washer face the base of the hitch or the head of the bolt?

2. Some folks have reported using washers on the bolt to get the hitch to fit. Curt provided me with a plate to remedy this issue. Has anyone else installed the hitch using this plate? I'm concerned the length of the bolts may not be sufficient (specifically sheering the bolts).

Thanks!

From the photos it’s hard to see how much thread you have left after installation, but if you have two threads left/extra then you have enagaged the entire strength of the bolt. Alternately meeting torque spec should get you the recomeened rated capacity.

I had this issue with my curt hitch, and I had them make the shim you have and send it to me. THis was about 2 yrs ago.

Try searching on my name for the bolt size, but you do need a longer bolt. I have a post with the size listed, I got them from NAPA for a dollar each I think.

from another mode?

I don’t think you need that shim on the pre 2014 model. I could certainly use that on my 2017 and my Curt hitch did not come with that. My hitch rubs on the lower bumper trim and has removed dabs of paint. Maybe I should call Curt??

Update:

The spacer was not needed. Matts17, let me know if you want mine, I'll be happy to part with it for free.

I bolted the hitch up with the conical tooth side of the washer facing the hitch.

I torqued to 86lbs-ft, per the instructions.

Didn’t get the shim with mine and it fits well on 2012.

Thanks so much for the offer! I called Curt based upon oubobcat's post and they are sending me one. Thanks again though.

Surfishing, do you still have the spacer? If yes, I am interested. Thank you.
