Tip Service Advisor During Holiday Season ?
Hi all.
My Lexus service advisor who I have been working with for over 10 years takes great care of me when one of my Lexus vehicles needs service.
Gets me in quickly, keeps me up to date, really goes the extra mile for me.
Is it appropriate to give him a Christmas/holiday "tip"? I was thinking $25 or $50. Or may8be a gift card?
Any thoughts, comments or recommendations?
Thanks.
Best,
Alan

I think he is already doing his job. he is doing what he is already paid to do. TIPS= "To Insure Prompt Service". If he is going well out of his way to take care of you personally. Going above and beyond what is his normal expected performance, just for you, and not at the expense of his other customers, then showing your appreciation in some reasonable way might be ok. Just don't over do it and embarrass him, or cause his boss to be suspicious. If I were the boss, I would not allow him to accept it. For many reasons, but one would be, he might feel compelled or obligated to you in some way that might compromise his performance with other customers. Or compromise the integrity of the business, or to "give away the store" to you. "bribe" comes to mind.

Why not? I mean, I give the mail lady a $30 Target gift card every year...

I get deliveries 5-6 times a week from UPS and it seems that I have multiple drivers. I once offered a dead surveillance camera to a driver that commented on my surveillance system. I told him it is at least intimidating even though it does not work. He said this could be considered as a bribe and drove away As far as mail delivery, I am not impressed where I live.

I don't really see a problem with it, though I'd frame it as a gift rather than a tip. Instead of just handing over money, I'd use a holiday card and either a gift card to a store with broad appeal or one of the Visa/American Express style gift cards. If I was feeling very generous I'd also have pastries or something delivered in the morning for the service team so that there is a broader "gift" to the team instead of just one person.
If you've been working with the person for 10 years, you should have somewhat of an idea as to how they would take such a gesture. The relationship is long enough where a gift isn't out of the ordinary but the extent of it really just depends on what you're comfortable with.
