Lightbulb Removing the cupholder top wood trim

So I damaged this wood trim piece and when pricing new said... no thanks at around $500 since you have to buy the entire cupholder assembly.

Found one for about $100 which is still a lot for what it is but I only needed the wood trim piece since the mechanism in one I bought has issues. I am gonna transfer the wood piece to my stock cupholder unit.

There are a number of threads on how to get this assembly out but here are some pics of the top wood trim piece removed.

You need to remove the three screws on one end, gently pop the side tabs in the middle and then it will side out of the end clips on the other side. There are also pictures of what holds the little rubber feet on as well. Some quick shots.

Almost looks like its designed to break if you try. I have no good suggestions, but maybe walk into the shop @ Lexus. See if one of the techs is practiced at it and can give you the "trade secret". I would certainly make sure its warm, so flexible, and not brittle. Let us know how it works out.

Actually.. this is the used replacement I picked up. I pulled the wood piece off it and am going to replace the damaged one in vehicle. If one is careful it pops off there pretty easy.... I used one of those plastic vehicle trim tools on the side.

I agree though... definitely not the most durable piece of plastic and what I assume to be a small sliver of laminated wood on top.

Thanks for the pictures! It's good to know that you can take it off and replace it. I don't think I ever close this lid on the cup holder as I always have some sort of coffee cup or bottle there. LOL.

Some references for removing console pieces. For this component just lifting up the gear shift cover a little bit is all that is needed, pop 2-3 of the side cover fasteners on each side and then pull the assembly straight up. You will need the main armrest door up as well as part of the plastics for this piece extend into that area.

Only need to do the first 10 seconds of tecman's video and no need to remove the gear shift for this piece.

About 13:20 in this video

Default Video above with grey cup holder wire for light.

“Grey connector piece that plugs into the cup holder cause there is a light in there” ? No light so what is that for? I was thinking that there could be a switch in the console release for the console light so I put my phone on video and sat it in the console and closed the console. The light does not turn off and I see no indication of a switch in my pic. The console light is in the back and not part of this piece. I haven't looked at the FSM. Just curious if we have an obvious answer here that I am missing?

Not sure if this was added on '12+ or something but mine has illumination in the cupholder and the '13 unit I purchased has the LEDs as well. If you pull out the divider in your cupholder notice the two LEDs at the bottom on each side in first pic below. Here is pic of underside with harness. This is in addition to the console lighting.

I don’t recall this ever being mentioned. Thanks for the clarification. I don’t have this.

Does your console light turn on and off with the main headlight switch?
I just ordered 2 usb connectors for the back so I will pull it apart soon. Will definitely watch tecman video many times

I think the front footwell, rear under-seat and door handle lights might be headlight only as well. One of those things I can't think of offhand.

If other '10-'11 owners don't have the lighting in cupholder then it would appear this was added in '12. Such a small item it would have to be noted by owners.

Geez... out of curiosity I searched for this on You Tube and found this DIY for a Volvo, Crazy PITA to do. I can live without that wimpy yellow light the GX has.

You still have the blue wireless cup holder light bbqsoup?

6:00-12:15 and then 17:15 to end (If you are bored)
