Default Under seat safe/lock box recommendation please

Hi! 16 GX 460
Without discussion why I am licensed to carry, can anybody recommend a good under the seat safe or a lock box please?
The box must be secured to the car and cannot be taken out easily. Locking cable is ok.

Are there any other locations I can conceal the safe? I cannot place it in the glove box or underarm in my state.

Infinite thanks in advance

Wow, I heard it was next to impossible to get one in CA.

When I need to leave a firearm in the vehicle I use a lock box that has a cable and the cable is wrapped around the seat's leg. You would need to unbolt the seat or cut the cable in order to remove the box. But I have not tried this with the GX yet so I have no idea what fits and what doesn't. Mine is similar to this but you need to check the dimensions to make sure the firearm you carry fits. This box would be too small for a full size firearm but sufficient for most compacts.

BUT, I rarely leave my firearm in the vehicle, 99% of the time it is with me or in the house we stay at. If you plan to frequently leave your firearm in the vehicle I would look for a more secure way to store it. I would try to find a vault that can be permanently bolted into the under-armrest storage box or into the trunk (which can be a hassle).

I would start looking into vaults like these:

By "underarm" you mean you cannot install a lockbox in the center armrest console? Thatd be the best/easiest place Id imagine.

Not to start a side discussion, but is not having it in the glovebox or underarm a stipulation of having a LTCF in CA? Just curious.

Default Underarm would seem clear

While I do not have any need, it would seem logical to think underarm means...concealed carry under your arm?

I meant the center console, the box under the armrest. If you can install a vault into the box that is easily accessible that would be the best place since it is concealed. It is not convenient to reach under the seat and handle a small lock box with a key.

You do not need a spare tire either; until you actually need it . But we are not here to discuss gun laws...

You would think..... but since "logical" and "California" dont exactly fit together thats why I was asking for clarification. Some states require the gun to be out of arms reach when traveling.
I guess literally it would mean under the arm or on your person and more broad it could mean within arms reach.

Thanks for your post. I too am looking for something similar. My desire is to find a solution that is secure, but NOT visible. Some of the recommendations listed above could be quite the eye-sore.

The company Console Vault makes something for the Toyota 4-Runner (as well as many domestic models) but I don't know if it will work in the GX

http://www.consolevault.com/Toyota-4...2017_p_71.html

I have sent them an email to see what they recommend and will keep this post updated when/if I receive a response.

You got to do what you got to do, but I would really hate to be fumbling with a safe like that in an emergency situation.

Really thankful for what state I live in.

I believe the primary purpose of a safe storage is to secure the firearm when you must leave it in the vehicle for an extended period of time not when you are in the vehicle.
AZ has similar restrictions as any other state and even if AZ had no restrictions of any sort you still cannot carry your firearm into for example a USPS office or any federal building (like all buildings in the Grand Canyon National Park).

Prohibitions on carrying firearms in these venues apply to both open and concealed carry.  Any establishment or event open to the public where the operator makes a reasonable request for you to give them custody or remove the weapon from the premises. A sign would qualify for such request. By law, cities and counties are required to offer on-site storage if they ban weapons but not all are in compliance.  The grounds of any school, other than the parking lot. In order to be legal in the parking lot the weapon must be unloaded, and, if left in an unattended vehicle, such vehicle must be locked and the weapon out of sight.  Commercial nuclear or hydroelectric generating stations.  Polling places on Election Day.  Correctional facilities (this includes the parking lot of such facilities).  You can take a firearm onto school property if you follow the procedure below.
