The OEM remote start kits look to be fairly plug and play. I don't really have a need for one but might look into it as well.

That being said most sites only show as being applicable to 2010-2015 models.

PN: PT398-60112

EDIT: I guess I should test out my vehicle first to see if it has the feature.... from what I gather from old threads here even if you self install there is a final programming piece that needs to be handled by dealer for around $125.

I installed one in a 2010 RX350 and it was far from plug and play. Removing half the lower dash, air bag removal. Not for the faint of heart.

If that is the case.... feature isn't important enough for me to want to pursue. :-) Although probably more room under dash in GX to work in than the RX.

I have a 2017 and I use lexus enform to remote start the car. So far I've used it 1x in 3 months. I find that it takes about 30 seconds to work b/c my app has to upload to a satellite and back down to the car. In this world of instantaneous satisfaction i find the 30 seconds is way too long having to call up the app, hit in the code, and start it is also not the same as pressing a key fob. But it is a remote start feature I would be disappointed if i had nothing. Also its free and you need lexus inform to use pandora and other apps on the radio.

My 2015 GX came with factory remote starter. The range is limited to the factory key fob, but I much prefer it to the Enform setup and the mandatory subscription.

Question Remote Start when Enform Expires

Lots of threads here of this but no solutions for when the service expires. Yes, the feature goes away after the expiry of the free first year service. It's not worth the $349 to renew...for many reasons. Is there a bypass solution to use the FOB like one can on the older models? Seems pretty stupid of Lexus to **** off Lexus owners with this.

No way to use it without Enform.

Yet, my employee's $28k Nissan has remote start, via app and/or key fob, adaptive cruise and an additional camera, all included...
there are days I definitely reconsider my GX....

Seems like typical direction these days to the subscription revenue model

Lexus Enform Remote is "only" $250/year, the $350 would also include Destination Assist which only Lyft drivers might need.
You can buy a fob only remote start with the '80 range for $500 one time, no phone, no subscription.

reposting an old thread:
Many of us have $1000+ Flat Screen TV's.
Most of us have subscriptions to use the set the way it was designed.
Mine totals about $85/month...$1000/year. I pay as much a year as I paid to buy it originally!
$250 a year to use a $50k car the way it was designed?
Find it, follow it, monitor it, start, stop, lock it, recover it if stolen, recover yourself if crashed...

Perhaps, but features like this that require subscriptions with Lexus may cause a buyer to choose another brand. I don't know what is available with Mercedes-Benz, BMW etc. at no additional charge? Key fob remote start should be standard with a LUXURY brand.

No arguments from me... I think it is wrong too. I should have stated in my post.... very shortsighted view by manufacturer

This is like an epidemic in IT so not surprised to see it in auto industry

Quick prowl through websites reveals a few comparisons:
BMW's Assist trial for 60 days then $200 or $400/year
Acura Link trial for 90 day then $250/year
Hyundia BlueLink trial for 1 year then $100 or $200 or $300/year
M/B MBrace trial for 60 months Premium functions $200/year
Infiniti trial for 6 months then $200/year
Lexus Enform trial for 1 year then $165 or $250 or $350/year
Volvo On Call trial for 6 months then $200 year (no remote starter)

Ford Travel Link Dealer Remote Start $585 + $49/year
Mazda Dealer Remote Start $640.95

I certainly agree with everybody that is would be sweetness and light if every possible feature
was included forever for free for everybody but that would involve raising the purchase price.
As a Delivery Specialist I can tell you that no everybody wants/understands/needs all of our
features. Pay for what you use...

Except remote start is not a feature that requires a subscription based system.
