USB Audio Drive - Slow to enable "Browse"
Hi folks.
I sent the email below to my Lexus Technology Specialist, but he said he never heard of it, and would need some time to get back to me.
So, I thought I'd paste it here, and see if any of you have encountered the issue and hopefully found a solution.
"Hi Technology Folks!
I have a question about the use of a USB Thumb Drive in the Audio system.
I have about 30Gb of music copies over from an iTunes folder on my PC.The USB drive works great, gets read, and all music and metadata are accurate.... EXCEPT, it take 5-7 minutes for the 'BROWSE' functionality to become available.
This means I can't select a different album for 5-7 minutes after starting the car. Every time the car gets restarted, I have to start all over again.(Oh, the car is a 2015 GX460... with a Mark Levinson system and Navigation)
The 32Gb and 64Gb drives I've tried are formatted FAT32, and I've tried using a ID3 Tag removal tool to remove ID3_V1 and ID3_V2 tags in various combinations, per internet suggestions.
I've tried using Lexar and SanDisk USB 2.0 and 3.0 compatible drives. (Hi performance, major manufacturer)Do you have any suggestions?I know it seems like a minor thing, but it's become pretty annoying.
I appreciate any suggestions you can provide."

Are you on the latest firmware release? There are audio & USB based fixes here.
If not, you might try seeing if the latest firmware update addresses it. Might even be fixed by an earlier firmware release.

Thanks for the quick reply..
Yes, I just got the car a few weeks ago, and did apply the one firmware update that Lexus had available on their website.
It successfully installed, but the problem remains. It's a 2016 GX460 with Nav, so there's only one update...

Are all the files in root of drive or are they in any separate folders? As a test have you tried putting like just 20 songs on there to see if delay even occurs with a spartan number?

Yup, I saw that thread...
The folder are set as: Root, Artist, Album, individual mp3's.
The Metadata and folder structure gets read correctly, albeit slowly...
I haven't tried limiting it to just a few albums. Not a bad idea, but won't be a solution.

I hear ya... not a solution but good feedback to developers for future fix. I miss not being able to copy music to the nav HD like in my Infiniti G.

Good idea... I might put my old unused 60GB iPod to use. Need to find it.... probably hanging out with my original 5GB firewire model.
