Trying out a new grease gun from Germany and apparently widely used in Europe called the Lube Shuttle. A mix of + & - depending on how you look at it. Potentially an experiment but very promising.

• Uses proprietary grease cartridges that may have far less availability. (It can be purchased on Amazon)
• Extremely easy to prime
• Far less messy
• No plunger
• Less waste in grease
• Far more costly grease gun than what you would typically purchase

I was surprised how quickly grease came out on a brand new unit today.

Frankly tired of dealing with grease guns that leak, don't dispense grease for whatever reason, the whole old school plunger spring contraption that most seem to have and potentially just a big mess if grease gun doesn't work right.

Hey guys I know the manual calls for 2 different greases to be used on zerks ok the slip and spider yoke, but is only using 1 grease fine? I was thinking of using Mobil 1 xhp222?

What grease did you use? AMSOil? I've seen videos of people just using one grease but i just wanna make sure i don't mess anything up lol it'll be my first time doing this kind of maintenance.

Having sold lubricants in the past, there are 2 things that need to be addressed concerning the grease used to lube the drive (propeller) shafts. First , NLGI no 2 is spec'd, NLGI no1 is softer. 2nd, when using a synthetic, make sure the base is compatible with lithium based grease. Some brands use Aluminum complex or Polyurea base and are not compatible with common lithium complex greases.

I don't think it really matters as long as it is Lithium based NLGI #2. You can get it at HF or at any auto store. Synthetic is better if you let the maintenance slip or use the truck under extreme conditions but otherwise it really makes no difference.

I did this over the weekend. I used my HF grease gun and worked perfectly. I could not see grease coming out when I did the slip yokes so I stopped after about 10-12 pumps; I did not want to over-grease them. Is there a consensus on what is the right amount of grease for the slip yokes?

The service manual also calls for re-torquing the bolts to 65 ft/lbs. I did this with a bit of a pain since as you apply toque to the bolts it turns the wheels. I had to put the truck back to the ground, chock the wheels then access 2 of the 4 bolts. Being on the ground gave you very small clearance to work so next time I'll buy ramps. Then I had to roll the truck slightly to access the other 2 bolts.

All bolts were tight enough, the wrench just clicked without turning any of the bolts.

I do 10-12 pumps on the slip yokes as well. On my stock height GX I use 2 pairs of these 12K lb Rhino ramps. They work well.


I think HF has their own version now for $10 less for a pair.

What grease did you end up using? I know Acrad35751 suggested some grease but those need to be ordered online. My local Autozone have Valvoline grease that has fortified Moly so I'm wondering if that's ok to use.

This time I just used some generic Lithium based grease from HF - Sta-Lube Lithium Grease.

Synthetic i better, next time I'll get the ones Acrad recommends.

I got the harbor freight grease gun yesterday... I figure if it breaks, it'll be time for a new career as a auto tech and a new fancy grease gun.


Harbor Freight has 3 grease tubes available. .Would the Moly version be good enough for every 5-10k miles? It's NGLI 2 and apparently has some Moly in it. How much, I don't know... I tried looking at the STA LUBE and CRC website and couldn't find any percentages.
