it should work, i'd check sewell's site to see if the part numbers match. that said, many people complain that the engine turns off when you get to the car and you have to start it again when you get in.

yes it does do that. the most useless feature ive seen yet. Our 2005 infiniti lets you remote start it and it stays on when you open the door. another not so smart lexus feature

Most useless is a little harsh, you can warm or cool the interior before entering. I have used the warming feature but it does time out, 10 minutes maybe?

I'm told it's due to the push button start vs. key start. With the push button somebody can open the door and drive away with the fob, with a car that requires a key you need the key to unlock the wheel etc. It's a security feature. I agree, it's a PITA but hey, it still works just fine.

the doors don't unlock when you use the remote start, and if they do manage to get into the driver's seat they won't get very far without the remote. I don't think lexus car thefts are common anyway... Lexus should change the description of the remote start to describe it more correctly as a comfort feature, not really remote start in the tradition sense that most people assume

seems the car can be driven without the smart key until the engine is turned off. so it would make sense as a security feature. for some reason I thought the engine would cut off after a certain distance when it got below a certain speed.

Exactly, And car with keys would lock the steering wheel, Our wheels don't lock. The doors are locked when on remote start but if it didn't shut down upon door unlock somebody could hop right in by breaking a window or slim jim the lock and drive away. You couldn't do that they days of keyed ignitions. The Fob doesnt need to be in it to drive away, just don't turn it off and you can drive across the country.

I don't like that it turns off but reslly, whats the ig deal, so you start it again.

Our cars are always looking for the fob. When the engine is running, and the fob is not present, a warning comes on. To me, a more logical setup would have been to shut down the engine if remote start is used and the fob is not detected the moment the driver steps on brake to be ready to drive.

It is not an inconvenience to have to restart the engine; it is just a bit ridiculous in this day and age, given that the ECU and related computers know the status of every system in our vehicles.

Default RES Question.

Is it possible to program RES system so it doesn't shut the engine off when I open the door?

I don't think it is possible to change the Lexus RES. It is kind of silly, but that is how it works.

Default Tonneau cover and remote start help with 2015 GX 460

Hello. I am hoping to find some help. I just purchased a 2015 GX 460 luxury trim, silver with black. It did not have the tonneau cover in the vehicle. I was trying to find one online and have found one part # 6491060180C0 for about $250 and a "superceded" part # 64910-60180-C0, the same but with dashes added and a $500 mark up. Does anyone know if the #6491060180C0 part works with my vehicle? This is a real head scratcher. It seems the new part # is for 2015 and 2016? Also, my vehicle is equipped with RES remote engine start and it does not work. Does this require a subscription to work? I have had mixed answers on this. Thank you for any and all help!

the 2015 GX had 2 remote start. the RES which starts your car via the key fob, doesn't need a subscription. the RES+ has the same features as the RES but allows you to remote start the car via the mobile app. To use the mobile app, you have to pay a subscription.

Thanks pinoyesv6. I definitely have just the RES with the key fobs. The batteries are good in the key fobs but they will not start the vehicle. When I contacted a Lexus dealership's tech pro they told me to use my sos button to connect and subscribe??? Their service dept. manager didn't have an answer, he actually referred me to the tech guy. : ( I do not have the RES + and I have remote start that doesn't work. Everyone I ask at Lexus gives a different answer but none that seem right. Any further insight would be great! Thanks!

Potentially stupid question, but are you close to the vehicle when you try to remote start it? You need to be in normal keyfob range for it to work (the three lock button presses and hold).
