Default Dash Cam and Dent

I installed a Dash Cam back in March mainly because I wanted to be able to capture all the beautiful scenic moments whenever I drive my Lexus suv -it's a vanity thing.

However, after going for a leisurely drive and then parking it on the street last Sunday, I came back to a dent on my door, which I instantly knew was an accident. My original instinct was that a biker fell against it since there is a bike lane alongside the road. Plus, there was a black rubber line within the dent, which I thought came from a rubber bike handle.

It wasn't until after reviewing a couple of clips, I found what I was looking for. And as upset as I was initially, the dash cam gave me a sense of closure when it captured the footage. I only wished the lady had the decency to leave a note and at least apologize.

Looks like another OEM device.

My view from the driver's seat. The dash cam is behind the enlarged rearview mirror.

Dent on door

Luckily the sheet metal that Lexus' uses for the GX appears thicker than those on a car or crossover.

And through the magic of Paintless Dent Repair, the dent is removed.

Is she taking her empty keg for a refill on her little scooter . Glad it came out.

Are you recording with motion activation? Do you have a device that monitors battery voltage?
I don't have my camera set up to do this and now you have me thinking maybe I should.

Yeah, I don't quite get some people. What's a lady like that doing with such a big container? Well luckily, it was plastic and I did not lose any paint.

I do not have motion activation turned on for my dash cam. In fact, I did not even connect the external GPS (no need to self-incriminate). It's hard wired (obviously) to the fuse box in the interior via a Power Magic Pro set at 6 hours or if my battery drops to 11.8 volts, whichever occurs first. You can adjust it so that it shuts off at a higher voltage or have it record longer, but I believe 11.8 volts and 6 hours is fair enough. I will risk the rest. The memory card is a 128GB micro SD from Samsung. The Power Magic Pro is what allows the camera to continuously record, even after the vehicle is off. I do not believe that having motion activation turned on along with the additional 6 hours from Power magic Pro is necessary.

Footage-wise, it records at 1080p. And believe me, it's really much sharper than what you see on the YouTube video. I think YouTube lowered the quality a bit.

I have the Street Guardian version 2 with the Sony CMOS image sensor. It's well worth the slightly higher price as it does not contain a battery, but a supercapacitor.
