Lightbulb Vehicle Customizations / Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS)

I just learned that you can get text messages through the radio if you go in your phone's bluetooth settings & turn notifications on. It got me thinking about what other hidden tricks I may be missing out on. Are there any that are not enabled by default or that may be hidden that you have found useful? Maybe, as an example, a way to turn 3-zone climate control off without having to go through the climate screen & second screen?

Some GX owners in the past have overlooked this so I thought I would bring it up again. The overhead Conversation mirror also opens up for a sunglass holder. I keep a lighter, flashlight and some spare cash in there.

May be this is not so much of a hidden trick, but I just learned today that my non-ML audio system can actually play DVDs. Car needs to be in Park, with Emergency brake engaged.

I was worried the first time I sat in the GX that we were giving up our sunglasses holder when I saw the mirror, and the technology specialist didn't even know. Figured it out later when I got home and started peeling off the plastic.

I had no idea about the DVD trick. I'm about to go run out to the car & try it.

I knew about the sunglasses holder simply because I have the same thing in my 4Runner, but without the backseat kid mirror. I was a bit worried when I first opened it because you have to pull on it pretty hard to get it to come all the way open & I was worried I was going to break it.

I tried EVERYTHING I could to get text messages from my phone on my 2011 Base GX screen with no luck... Maybe I missed something. One thing that is pesky, my wife does "voice texting" and when her BT is on, the GX thinks she's making a phone call when she hits her microphone button on her phone.

Yes voice texting will connect and disconnect as “phone call”. I don’t think it can read txt messages, that maybe in the 14+ model. My ‘14 camry has that feature and it has the newer Toyota infotainment system.

We are talking about iPhone here first: Check your phone, under Bluetooth setup, click the "i" at right side of "Lexus GX". Make sure the "Show Notification" is turned on. By default, this option is off.

No luck getting my 2015 Lux to text or read texts on Android... all notifications set to ‘on’.

Not sure about Android. It was a specific function that is available to iPhone. It is a specific "show notification" under Bluetooth profile on iPhone. See below:

Couple of other customary Lexus parlor tricks...press and hold the fob "unlock" button and watch the windows
and sunroof open. Vents a hot car as you approach. Release earlier to stop part way down. Slip the mechanical
key out of the fob and insert in the driver's door key cylinder. Turn CCW and watch any open window/sunroof close!
No, you can not press the fob "lock" button to close because it overrides the Jamproof feature and you could catch
Fido's head the the closing window.

Tapping the steering wheel button "Mode" will take you from AM to FM to BT to....
Press and hold the "Mode" button to pause a CD or iTune track or to Mute a Radio station.

Touch the Start/Stop button once with your foot OFF the brake for Accessory
Touch the S/S button twice with your foot off for Power Windows/Sunroof without starting the motor.
Touch the S/S when you park but are still in gear...Accessory. Promise me you will remember to touch
the S/S one more time before exiting the car to really shut it down, I'm not coming to jump start you!
