2015 vs 2016 GX 460
I am strongly thinking of making a final decision to purchase GX 460 in the next 1-2 weeks, except had some questions.
Is there any difference between the 2016 vs the 2015 Model. I am looking at the Premium GX and the dealership salesman was really pushing for me to get the 2015 model, he said there is no difference between the two.
The other thing I am debating about is that I have heard rumors that GX may be totally revamped in 2017 with a V6 engine, getting rid of the swing rear door(which I really don't like), therefore not sure if to wait 1 more year.

There was speculation about changes in 14, 15, and 16. Do not depend on rumor. There really is no difference between 15 or 16. You should be able to save much more money on the 15. If and when Lexus changes the GX it very well may go away from the body on frame. I do not think it would go to a V-6 because then it would be under powered, like the Toyota 4RUNNER, and the GX will weight more.

I doubt they will get rid of the GX. These are selling very well and is the only midsize Japanese built V8 SUV available. The only change for 2015 is the availability of sepia nuluxe interior in the base model.

I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I just bought a 2016 GX Premium & I thought I read that the full Lexus Enform suite (remote start, lock, etc with an iPhone app) was standard on the 2016, but not on the 2015.

Not much difference between the two, but I would buy a 2016. In fact, I just bought mine a week back. You can get a good deal on either one, unless you are getting under invoice on a 2015 there is no point in getting it, you should be able to do $300 above invoice comfortably for a 2016 depending on demand in your area and if you are prepapred to travel around a bit to save money.
I was told by the sales people after I purchased mine that they have official word from Lexus this will be the last year for it. They also said Lexus cannot keep GX and another 3 row corssover because of the tightening emission regulations, they can only have so many of them on the road. I don't know if that is true. I don't think they will just make it a V6 and make the rear door a liftgate and leave everything the same way. They will be doing a complete redesign and at that point it will not be a GX, but something else like a TX probably.

The GX holds value to Lexus due to the profit margin. Body on Frame SUVs are have huge built in margins due to the ease of production. However with XUVs meeting not only the CAFE targets, and satisfying the space and a capability needs of most buyers its better to move the GX with a extended RX.
-Less emissions
-production can be moved to CA or US

The GX is sold as the Land Cruiser Prado in other countries. Its available with a turbodiesel. I don't see them stopping production at all unless they plan to stop importing it to the U.S.

All great points. Thanks for the information. I have eyes on 2016 GX premium which I think I will pick up(buy) by end of this week. Do I need to purchase extra warranty/protection? which I know the dealer will try to sell it to me once purchase is final.

If the next GX goes crossover, without the body on frame build, the towing capacity, the V8 etc., then those of us with the current generation should see even better resale values. The Toyota FJ40 is now worth exactly what you paid for it even after two years or more as that car is no longer sold here and is a body on frame SUV with great off road chops. People want these cars despite the CAFE standards that are driving them from the marketplace. Maybe I should buy another one and just store it somewhere....?

I have a 2006 4Runner V8 with 100k miles on it & right now I can sell it for a mint because they stopped making 4Runners with the V8 in 2009. If they downgrade the GX, you are absolutely right that the current generation will not only hold its value longer, but it will actually increase in value for the first few years.

Lightsaber- I would not bother with the extended guarantee, but that's based on my experience. My 2010 with routine maintenance has been flawless. I purchased it, and have a year left, but I don't see the need.

I agree with kvsm5. I had an extended warranty on my 1992 Camry & I was trying to find stuff to get fixed before I rolled over 100k. Never had an extended warranty on my two subsequent 4Runners & I didn't get one on my GX.
