How do you turn off the "beep" when driving with glass hatch open

I'll sometimes transport item that are long and I need them to stick out of the glass hatch. Unfortunately then the warning light comes on and continually buzzes. Is there any way to turn this off?

I've thought of disconnecting the switch, but by doing that, the rear door wipers may not work. I don't leave the door open that often. I know, the beeps are a PITA.
