Like most newer cars the factory speakers are probably fine but let down by a crappy amp and no processing. I wonder how much better it would sound with a simple JBL DSP amp ($400-500). I think the trick is finding a harness and how to wire it up.

I was also let down by ML which forced me not to bother...it sounds fine but not worth the price. Maybe it's just talked up so much you go in expecting more. I had the same experience with the $5000 B&O system in the Audi Q7 - turned it on and was left wondering what all the fuss and high price was about.
