GX460 - Custom Manufacturer Order
Hi guys,
Curious if anyone has experience with a dealer putting in an order with the Lexus Manufacturer and how long it typically takes to take ownership?
My order was:
Vehicle: 2014 Lexus GX 460
Style: Luxury
Interior Color: Black
Exterior Color: Knights Armor Pearl
Selected Options: Standard Paint (-PAINT), Knights Armor Pearl (1H3), Driver Support Package (ZA), Preferred Accessory Package (Z1), Cargo Mat (C1), Cargo Net (GN), Wheel Locks (WL-0), Mark Levinson Audio System (ML), Exhaust Tip (E5), Paint Protection Film (3P), Towing Hitch w/Ball Mount (DH), Glass Breakage Sensor (Gbs) (V2), Door Edge Guards (D5-0), Remote Engine Start (Res) (V4), Black, Semi-Aniline Leather Seats (LB40).
Thanks for any perspective or thoughts!
Brian

Fail. Do you even have a VIN or shipment status?
Sounds like the dealer forgot about you/never entered your order. Lexus special orders are entered on the 20th of every month. It should take 3 months if you're on the West coast, or 4 months if you're on the East coast, tops.

Mine took just over two months (ordered mid November and in came in the end of January).
In the end what they shipped was not the exact car I had ordered. It actually had a few extra 'features' installed at the port (remote start and all weather mats...neither of which had any particular value to me as we keep the car garaged and I had already purchased a set of mats). I didn't find this out until pickup day when the dealer tried to tell me that is typical and tried to get me to pay for the extra features. That lasted about 10 seconds before I told the saleperson (nice but sternly) that if I wanted to hear that speech I wouldn't have bought from a Lexus dealership or bothered to negotiate a price back in November.
I was with my wife for pick up and she played it very cool. When the salesperson figured I wasn't going to buy in on the extra features, he turned to my wife and asked her if she thought there was value in the extra features. She turned to him, smiled and said, I'm trading in a perfecly good '13 GX model, and would be just as happy to leave with it . I was smiling (on the inside) and very proud of my wife's quick retort. I was initially angry that he addressed my wife to so see if she would soften on paying for the extra features, but she played it so well, and he buckled after speaking with his manager.
In the end the dealership came through and ended up 'throwing in' the extra upgrades at their expense. My faith in the dealerthip was restored in the end.
My guess is that a lot of times, that while the dealership says they are 'special ordering' a car, the generally have a pretty good beat on what is coming in even two months out. So while I thoughf mine was specially ordered and tailored for me, after 60 days, I got what I ordered, plus a few extra features.
Loved my '13, but love the styling and new features in the '14 even more.
