We test drove the 2012 GX and GL back to back this weekend. Both were very quiet and I really liked the GX over the GL. Both don't have that much space in the back after the 3rd row is opened. that said we rarely open the 3rd row. Now I need to see what discounts i get on the GX. Merc dealer is ready to give me around 6-7K discounts. all depends on the price now.

The reason I asked is because I could not find sound level data for these vehicles. I test drove just about every luxury SUV in the GX's class and out of all the features and driving dynamics I remember thinking to myself that the GX seemed to be the quietest (which included the GL). The vehicle I thought would be quieter would be the RX and to me it wasn't.

After looking at the InsideLine data I've come to the conclusion there may have been a clerical error or some kind of mistake with the 70 mph reading. If you notice the GX is quieter then the GL at idle and at full throttle yet at 70 mph the GX is WAY more noisier then the GL. The reason I feel there was an error is because I looked up my IS350 (which I know is way noisier then my GX (at 70 mph) and InsideLine has it at way quieter (62 dB). GL is rated at 62.6 and the GX is rated at 75 dB. This has to be an error because if you notice the GX is louder at 70 mph then it is at full throttle and I can't find any other vehicle that is louder at 70 mph.

Don't know what to say, you may be right. I can take db measurements in the GL and post them here, if you like.
Perception:
Engine noise on both are about the same to me (both at idle and full throttle). The only thing I have noticed at speed was the difference in wind noise (GL quieter), and I had both trucks in 3 digit range.

One more "pro" to GX: better fuel economy. The official EPA data:

Here is what I actually got the other day (highway miles):

I'll second that. My friend's '11 GX routinely get's around 22MPG on the highway and that's using pen and paper calculations (on board computer is always over optimistic). I had the GL on the long cross-country trips and couldn't get past 19MPG.
