GX 460 vs. Cayenne. Who had to make this decision?
For those of you who looked at the Cayenne or Cayenne S, why did you choose the GX 460 over it. I have this big debate in my head now. I know the reliability of the GX (Although with the shaking and leaning issues), but what else did you do and why did you choose one over the other?

I didn't look at the cayenne extensively (I didn't test drive it for example) but it was definitely in the top 5. I was already leaning towards lexus due to reliability (and btw, I have no shaking or leaning and I've had mine since march 2010).
It's been a while but I remember there were like 5 different versions and to get the bells and whistles I wanted the price got really high very quickly. I didn't look further into the cayenne bc my partner at work has one and he hates it. I can't remember exactly what he said but I remember one of them was that it's very uncomfortable. He might have said it was too stiff?
I liked that gx had 2 options, base or premium. Yes, you can special order exactly what you want but they only send 2 versions to my market. premium or base with a number of the packages. I decided the only thing missing from the base version that I wanted was the moldings and the tow hitch so I just had them added.
I had 2 4runners before the gx and I loved them both so I felt pretty confident I'd love the gx since it's just a fancy 4runner and I do. No regrets. LOVE IT. I take that back. I think I regret getting ecru. Looks amazing but shows every speck of dirt and wearing jeans turn the seats blue.
But I paid the dealer to clean the seats and they were able to get them pretty white again. Until I wear jeans again I'm sure but at least there's a fix!
Good luck!!

I really like the Cayenne inside and out. I haven't purchased an SUV yet but it will definitely be on my short list although the Cayenne can get expensive with options.
The below link doesn't really answer your question, but it does contain some tidbits from Lexus owners about the Cayenne.

Also you might want to check out 6speedonline as they have a pretty active cayenne section.

Apples and oranges. One is a really reliable luxury truck (number one in its class) and can be used for real off-roading and the other is more of a sport luxury crossover (intended for on-road use).

I have to tell you that I like the Cayenne in terms of acceleration, braking, MPG, & overall manners. The GX is better in terms of cargo room in the back. I also think you will get a bit more for your money in terms of creature comforts. I am not sure if I would take either vehicle off road, but you may do better in water with the Cayenne, 19 inches. . .

What Koz said....
GX is a true 4x4 and can go off road without a prob. Cayenne is a road only machine.
From my test drives of both: Cayenne for me was fun only with turbo, without it was just meh. GX felt luxurious and comfortable cruising...
Test drive both and see what feels better for you
