Anyone consider an HID retrofit versus a plug-n-play kit? (non HID owners)

Default Anyone consider an HID retrofit versus a plug-n-play kit? (non HID owners)

I'm really debating whether to retrofit an actual HID projector in our non HID housings rather than installing a plug-n-play kit.

Luckily we do have the option to buy new OEM HID headlight assemblies, but I'm not even sure what those cost for the entire setup. Has anyone priced these out before?

I've not had any luck finding a used GX460 halogen headlight to play with, or even new halogen headlight for that matter.

I've done couple of retrofits before, so I'm not afraid to tackle this project.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

I just did this on my ES (see link in sig). It's well worth it no doubt. I'd venture to guess it'd be very expensive $1k+ for your GX and difficult to find elsewhere online, but if you're willing to pay for it then go ahead.

Maybe I'm not clear on this, but doesn't the GX460 have HID projectors, or did you buy an option that's halogen reflective housings?

It's definitely going to be expensive. Remember that the HIDs come with self leveling mechanism as well as AFS, options that are not present with your halogen headlights. Retrofitting may be a problem, you would need all the actuators, sensors, computer and wiring harness. Unless of course, if the only thing you want is the HID specific lens in the headlight housing. Not sure if it's worth the money and pain though. Just get the HID kit from XtremeHID and be done with it.

that's exactly what I'm looking to do. A HID retro without all the extra AFS crap as that just adds to the complexity of the retro.

I have just done the kit. Look at DIY section. End effect is the same and big $$$ savings. Steve from XenonDepot has some nice kits.

Let me know if you guys need some quality HID components. I can supply you with quality D2S bulbs/ballasts for a retrofit as well.

Picking up a set of S2000 headlights today! I'll let you know if I need anything.

Now all I just gotta find a spare set of 2010 GX460 headlights to mock up.
