Question @ Jo8923 - Very unsafe in side collisions and terrible rollover?

Terrible rollover?!?? Consumer reports just gave the GX460 a do NOT buy, the ONLY other time that CR gave such an ominous rating was to the 2001 Mitsubishi SUV due to rollover... The 1st gen didn't have this issue, the video from CR shows the 2nd gen GX to be unsafe due to the possible rolloever issue with KDSS not kicking in fast enough (delay???) and noted that if the KDSS could be adjusted (firmware/adjustment vis TSB from Toyota) then the rating would be changed.

CR - full article and video of test (Toyota has been informed of this issue...)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36457556/ns/business-autos/

The Gen 1 was tested a few years ago of CR and this definately wasn't an issue then, but it is one now with Gen 2 so, I'm a bit puzzled as to why you would quote rollover as being an issue with Gen 1 vs. Gen 2.

Just wondering...?

BTW - Own the Gen1 (2005)and test drove the Gen2 on loan for two weeks from local dealer...
Thanks!

In comparison the "cheap plastic" isn't too bad if your careful and use mats in the cargo area. Plus it isn't in a too visible location. And the usable power folding third row is to 99% of the population better than a slightly higher cargo capacity and an unusable, hard to remove third row.

I'm sorry but this post came across as very idiotic to me. Again the 470 was a great truck...for 2003's standards. Don't call me biased because i've driven both extensively and own neither. Go sit and drive the gen2 before commenting like this again

anyone who wishes to complain about the gx 460 should go drive the 2010 4runner (especially an sr5). I bet you'll take back your complaints!

Details? I bought the GX bc I loved my 2001 4runner and wanted a nicer version. I actually still drive the 4runner on weekends! I wonder if it changed significantly?

Agree! I am a big 4runner fan. I had the 2004 and the 2006. I was very excited when the 2010 was coming out, but after seeing it I was very dissopointed. The outside look is ok, but inside looks terrible. Cheap plastic everywhere, big ***** are like in $10k american car, etc.... I would buy the pre-2010 anytime of the new one. That is why I have moved to Lexus since it looks much much better. I am sure the revision of 4runner in 3-4 years will be much better with LED tail lights, projector lights, etc but for right now it is dissopointment. The only bad part of having lexus is that I don't have a heart to take it off roading like I did with my 4runners.

i spent 8 months drooling over the 4runner, being on 4runner.org, planning all the mods, then the wait just killed me. cant get a limited with 3rd row around here. ridiculous! all for the better! I told myself in the beginning dont test drive the gx because I knew i would want it even though i didnt have the heart to dish out another 20K. in the end, i think i made the right decision, so by end of july, i hope to have my gx finally!
