Jumping from a GS to a GX
Hello Folks!
I have been jumping around the forum, first came here through the RX having a 04 RX330 then to the GS, currently own a 07 GS350 and now thinking of moving to the GX, probably going for a 2008-2009 GX, now I have a first question for you guys, I need a higher vehicle which is rock solid as my GS, I dont wat to come back to the RX since its not 4x4 and I dont need AWD, I live in the Caribbean so there is no need but I do come by a lot of potholes and go to the beach very often thats why Im thinking of the GX470. Question is:
What is theb est year of this generation? Any major issues I might foresee? I know that the V8 Lexus vehicles from the 04-09 tend to have problems with the braking system and VSC, know some ppl with the LX470 and the ABS system have failed several times same with the GS430, which got some problems with the VSC needing to replace the complete steering column and also with the air suspension, or should I go directly to the 2010 GX460?
What should I look after if im into the GX470? software-wise I have the techstream so i can use that as a checkup. I'm really in love with the white color (Blizzard pearl).
Hope you guys can help me up decide and find a great GX!

Thanks a lot for the reply! Very helpful link! What color would you recommend? I live in a extremely sunny area where no snow happens and it rains very often. Silver?

I just bought a GX a while ago. From my research before I purchased I didn't hear of any issues with VSC or the braking system on the GX470. The only things to look for are rust, seized brake calipers, functioning rear suspension airbags, and checking to make sure everything works. These trucks are pretty bullet proof. Two things to note are crashed dashes, this was covered on a now closed recall, and the rear driveshaft clunk, all of them do this and there was a TSB (not a recall) and an updated part to correct this in 08. Some 08 models got the updated part and some didn't. Other that this there aren't any other major issues to look for.
Blizzard white is white paint. Silver has another name.

I have an 08 with Cracked Dash, it's a small crack on the passenger side , i have learnt to ignore it (Happened after the recall period ended).
Not sure if it's more of an issue for the GX parked out in the sun or if it's across the board.

Very pleased with the Titanium Metallic (Silver) on my 07 with the dark grey interior bought at 121k. It has to get really dirty to notice. Now has nearly $6k in hail damage, but a nice 15 footer! Although not an exact comparison, I also have an 09 Venza in Blizzard Pearl which has tons of chips on the front, but no fade or peel and it sits out enough to have had the headlights haze somewhat. My most frustrating GX problem has been the driver's side second seat doesn't always
like to fully fold up against the driver's seat. I did a write-up on that here some time ago. This GX has the Mark Levinson and Nav with a broken tape player and sounds good enough for my poor hearing. Broken cup divider in the console and broken cup holder on the armrest in the back seats. Fixed both with plexiglas inserts. I just got in under the wire on the cracked dash replacement. Leather's holding up well. I'll likely have to decide soon whether to eliminate air bags or replace as intermittently hear the compressor energize on startup. If I could have, I would have bought an 08 or 09 just to have the latest, but they are practically identical. I wouldn't consider older than 06(?) due to chages made around then unless it was seriously low mileage or a great bargain, but I know a lot of you have them and are happy.

I'm currently deciding between 2011 GS350 or 2008-09 GX470. Honestly, whichever comes first.
Do you or anyone know if 2008-09 GX has bluetooth for audio or is it easy to install something in order to have that feature?
Also, could you guys please, advise on the price? Is $11-12k a lot for a 150k miles GX? What would be the fair price. I don't trust KBB.
Guzzy92fs, I hope you'll find a good one soon as well as me I'm looking for GX 470. I like the look of it over GX460. If you like the look of GX 460 more, then it's better to go for as it has more features and more modern.
Thank you.

I have both a 2013 GS350 and a 2008 GX470. I honestly feel the GX470 is more durable and reliable than the GS350. I like each car for different reasons. The GS350 is sporty (fsport) and I like the handling and power (wish there was a little more power) but I like the comfort, room and ride view of the GX470. They both compliment each other in different ways.
