recommendations for trans oil change/flush
Any thoughts on Transmission flush and change on 2003 GX470 with 145k on the ODO?? I believe vehicle had full lexus service completed at 70k by previous owner. Am i due for trans service? vehicle drives great no problems shifting, but planning a 2000 mile road trip in a couple of weeks so wanna be pro active

They say trans fluid is for the lifetime of the vehicle but I would change it every 100K anyway. I did mine at 100K at Lexus Dealer. Don’t forget to check rear diff as well.

I do a drain + fill (NOT a flush) every 30k. This gets around 1/4 to 1/3 of the fluid out.
At 150k I dropped the pan and changed the filter which was almost all the fluid.

Transmission fluid for these sealed transmissions needs to be changed periodically. The fluid is good for the "lifetime" of the mechanical warranty, not the "lifetime" of the vehicle".
60K miles is the recommended change interval if you tow (per scheduled maintenance in your glovebox).
It's NOT a trivial job to replace correctly (getting the right volume back in can be a little challenging). For a dealer/certified tech to do it right, the fluid needs to be warmed to within a specific temp range to account for expansion before pumping back in. i had my local Toyota dealer do mine (on both my LS and GX) since he's also a certified Lexus tech - it's expensive but not one I wanted to fiddle with myself.
As @chiph9 noted above, many have successfully done this "a little at a time". It's a viable option but be sure to know what you're getting in to before going this route - adding fluid to these is a bigger PITA than a traditional oil change.

If you have an 03 the drain and fill is pretty straightforward. You can fill the transmission through the dipstick on the 03. I plan on doing mine sometime in the near future. After 2003 they did away with the dipstick on the transmission so on the 04 on up models you have to use a pump to pump fluid into the fill hole underneath the vehicle which can be a pain as someone above mentioned.
