Engine Swap
Hello,
I have an 04 GX with 250,000 miles on her. She is running strong but I do a lot of driving. I love the car to death and if something major goes wrong with the motor it would suck. I was wondering if I wasn’t the only one that thought a Cummins 2.8 turbo 4 cylinder could fit in there. I think that it would be a killer swap. I know that I’m a mad man for thinking this, but I think that it can work. Thank you all.

The Toyota 4.7 is one of the greatest motors Toyota has ever made. Look around and you’ll find these motors with literally up to 1 million miles on them. I’m guessing you drive mostly highway miles. I wouldn’t worry one bit if I were you. Keep calm and drive on lol!

By all accounts the 4.7 V8 is an excellent motor. And as long as you're keeping up with the maintenance it can easily go 300k miles or more.

You don't find a lot of photos with the valve cover off -- they just don't go bad and need work done to them. About all you see is gaskets being replaced.
