Nav or no Nav
Hello- been lurking and am close to finally retiring my 2010 Acura RL for a SUV. Thought I was good on a 4Runner, but after looking at the GX 470, seems like a better 'transition' from the RL. Right now, the 2005-2008 years (124k- 183K for miles in my area) are within my budget of what I want to spend ($12- $16k in my area). Used to the MPG unfortunately. I'll finally be able to take my kayak(s) and fishing gear without borrowing the wife's Jeep. This vehicle will live outdoors so I'm not looking for a pristine model- just a solid mechanical one.
Should I worry about the Nav/HVAC controls? I.e. should I be looking at a non Nav GX?
The nav in the RL is terrible (on par with an early GX) and the backup camera is great if I want to see my license plate and bumper. I don't use either so won't miss them. As ya'll know, most GXs have the Nav.
Thanks-

I like having the backup camera - helps me not run-over the neighbor's kid.

Mine was bought mostly to be the kid car, primarily driven by my daughter. Wife wanted her in an SUV, sitting higher and less worries about handling in winter. Backup camera was a requirement although aftermarket is an option. Our other vehicles have them and you get spoiled, especially if parallel parking. Wife now drives GX whenever she can.

I have Nav and while i like it and find it sufficient, the actual navigation is horrible. You can't really use your voice to find things and navigate there. The tech is outdated and old. The problem is, the climate controls are in the touch screen unit. This is a hurdle to replacing it with a modern unit. If you get non nav, the climate controls are on the dash and you can replace the radio with the a modern unit very easily and enjoy things like android auto or apple car play and bluetooth audio. My 2 cents. get the non-nav if you can and drop 500 bucks on a nice unit with modern features and add a backup cam. If you don't think that is something you will do, the 2007 and up models have a nicer nav unit with excellent resolution and the backup cam is very nice, and they added 5th gen nav software. Good luck!
