04gx470 nav update
Hell there, i am a new luxus owner and am looking for a viable link to purchase an update disk for the navigation. I have a 2004 gx 470 without the rear entertainmemt system. I am mechanically and technically inclined so installing will not be an issue. I also have all the tools necessary. I was only hoping to not spend a fortune having it done at a dealer. Ive seen a few links in this thread for the disk but all have expired. And i have searched the internet but have a hard time trusting a random website for genuine lexus parts. Any imput would be greatly appreciated and i look forward to contributing to this thread once i gain some more knowledge on the matter. Thankyou.

The newest map data for a 2004 is going to be 2013 - that's the last DVD that was published for it.
There used to be a website from Lexus for purchasing navigation discs & SD cards but it's gone dead. Your options are pretty much eBay or your dealer. eBay will likely be cheaper, but you run the risk of getting a bad disc, or one that has malware on it that could brick your nav system. There are two discs available - east & west. The map data is the same on both, but one will have POIs for the eastern US and the other will have POIs for the western US (just not enough room on the disc for both at once)
Installing a new disc is easy - slide the passenger seat all the way forward, open the cover on the nav unit, then the inner door on the nav unit, eject the old disc, insert the new disc and close everything back up. Turn your key and wait for it to be read, and do a software update if needed.
Honestly, if you never drive anywhere that you don't have cell service (remote parts of West Texas/New Mexico, etc) I would just get a phone cradle and use your phone.

im really not concerned with actually using the nav system more so just annoyed at the message that constantly pops up about it being out of date. I appreciate it though.

I bought the 2013 disk off eBay
the first one I tried didn’t work luckily I tried the 2nd and works great. However I still get the message. I think I paid 13 bucks for it.

I upgraded because it would show me driving through a field when I was on newly built roads. Just happens less often now.

Yes, while I'm driving a message will pop up that says dvd map data is expired or something like that. I can't remember the exact text. Its really no big deal but it almost seems like some other functions don't exactly work properly. Although i have never had the updated version so I'm really not sure. I will have to research more about it, maybe talk to a lexus tech sometime this week. If it comes down to it ill bring it in and have the dealer update it. Thanks all

This disk claims its for an 05 gx not an 04. I will do some research on the subject but do you know if it is compatible?

I updated my '03 to '10 when we got it, it's still mostly useless IMO, as Chiph9 pointed out it shows less driving through open fields in newer areas of development, but it's still 8+ years out of date, and an 8-track old interface.
