2008 GX 470 belt idler/tensioner noise
Hey guys, just wondering if there are any known issues with any of the components associated with the serpentine belt. I have owned this truck for about 6 months now and some time in the last month or so it has started to make a scratchy, squeaking noise (sorry I don't know how to better describe it). The noise is not a squealing belt, that much I'm sure of. I know that some other Toyota's have had
an issue with the ider pulley because my buddy has replaced his about 4 times on his FJ Cruiser. Has anyone had a similar experience with their GX?

Have you at least removed the belt and test the pulleys???
Probably the best thing to do at the moment to skip the guess work. If its one of the pulleys it should be an easy fix afterwards.
but usually idle pulleys dont really go out as often... they just get swapped when you do the timing belt as a preventative thing.

that noise can be very elusive. you might try putting a meter on your alternator before you go replacing parts. I've seen it go "bad" just barely, and it would exhibit a whine. 'Squeak' to me means 'temporary' or short, not continuous. But if you mean it persists as long as the motor is running, the usual drill is to put a pipe or stethoscope against each accessory and listen. Can still fool you. i've replaced a few tensioners that were not bad

My alternator had a squeaky whine noise. On and off for a month or so till it finally gave up the ghost.
Knew it was only a matter of time.
You can hear it well by the passenger side front wheelwell.
