Would you buy a GX with 300,000 miles?
A dealer friend of mine just took a 2004 GX470 with 300k in trade in. When I expressed interest he said he would sell it to me for $3800. We already own a 2008 GX so we know how awesome these rigs are. Its a 1 owner truck and was always dealer serviced.
New parts:
rear Air springs OEM
left and right CV boot/axle assembly oem
tires have 20k
the guy even did power steering fluid and brake fluid flushes at the dealer
It does need a new timing belt though.
The rig rig drives as nice as our 2008 with 154k on it. This would be a purchase for our son who is turning 16 next year.
Thoughts?

Hard to say. Lexus/Toyota cars are legendary for high milege and many cars have reached 1/2 to 1 million miles so 300K is nothing. I think if I am a mechanic or good with fixing cars on my own, I would get it. Mine 04 model has 234K miles on it and its running like a champ(90% freeway miles) and survived couple incidents with minor body damage which was repaired. Good luck.

That being said, I do acknowledge that the risk of failure is very real.

If it’s any consolation, I have a friend...single mom.....has a 2004 land cruiser with 450,000 miles...only normal maintenance except for a fuel pump....engine, drivetrain, tune ups, lubes, fluids....

Update 2.5 years later
We still have the 2004 GX and it has 313,000 miles now. They’ve been mostly in town miles from my son driving back and forth to school and social activities, so I’d say they’re pretty hard miles knowing how 17 year old boys drive.
Here’s the list of what I’ve had to repair in that time:
Timing belt/water pump and various coolant hoses (I did this right after buying it)
Radiator
Power Steering Pump
Alternator (did this preventatively since I had PS Pump off already)—unbelievably it still had the original alternator at over 300k!
Parking brake- free fix by just cleaning out the glue that came off the leather boot onto the gearing, and spraying gobs of WD40
ABS module/Power brake booster—this repair almost made us give up on the rig because a new part would have been over $3000 for the part alone! Thankfully I found a rebuild service on eBay that did it for far less. I think I paid $500+ after shipping costs.
Engine and transmission run smooth as silk.
