Default Would you buy an 05 with KDSS or a 07 without?

Hi all

Last buyer question I promise (sort of)

I've found two GXs in my price range and I need your advice
1) 05 100k miles, SPORTS pack. no timing belt service, 1 dent
2) 07 120k miles, No SPORTS pack. YES timing belt service, 2 big scratches, 1 leaking CV boot

What do you think?

Feels like I am trading the KDSS for the newer engine

That is a broad question. What does the carfax or other type of report say? I will not buy a vehicle if it has been in a big accident, its hard to find! What condition are they in? What does the Lexus drivers report say about the routine maint. done on each? that is a HUGE tip to tell you if the previous owners took care of them! If 1 was done like clockwork and 1 wasnt, that tells you something. There is a lot more to think about than just year and mileage. CV boots on these are a common thing to happen. Body and cosmetic/appearance can be fixed or touched up. Sports pack, I mean if it was so great we would all be wanting 1! Don't get me wrong, it would be definitely a plus but not by much. Did you bring them to a independent mechanic for a purchase inspection? Test all the functions, including locking the diff on LOOSE ground? I mean, what does your gut tell you? Just from the descriptions the 1 WITHOUT the timing belt being done is probably why they got rid of it and who knows what else they did not do! What do the frames underneath look like? If it was me, JUST from what you posted, and sorry if I blew up your post, I would go with the 07. BUT type those VIN #s into lexus drivers!

My two cents. If all equal, the timing belt service will cost you about $1k. For the age, the KDSS might give you more headache than enjoyment (more expensive in repair).

Thanks for the tip! HUGE

The Lexus driver shows both vehicles with intermittent service history at the dealer.

I cast another net in my area and vehicles with comprehensive service records are going for 3k more like-for-like -- a bit of a dealbreaker for me

Frames look the same - no rust but some rust on bolts and exhaust

Not a big deal, pretty normal. Had mine refinished.

ALL the wheels do that, you can actually find some Toyota ones that will bolt right up to it depending what "look" you want
