Navigation System & a few questions

Hi everyone... we are about 90% sure we are getting a GX470 this week. First of all, do you prefer the beige or gray leather?

And about the navigation... please tell me exactly what you think of it. What all kinds of features does it have? Is it annoying that the radio and climate control go through the screen with the dumb "I agree" message? Any way to turn that off?

Thanks!

depends on your exterior paint color

choosing between the beige or charcoal interior really depends on your exterior paint color

navigation is really cool in a sense that it is touchscreen operated.

a plus is that it is "voice" operated too

the i agree confirmation screen is one for the lawyers since the driver waives his/her rights againts the manufacturer if one uses the navigation as an excuse for an accident (or something like that)

the GX470 is really nice vehicle.

I chose it over the MDX, Murano, FX, Volvo and even the Touareg.

The Cayenne was just too much money.

I was really hoping for the LX and the Range Rover but both were priced outside my pocketbook.

It's funny you say even the Touareg... we were all set on getting a V8 Touareg w/ Premium Plus and 19", but when they came in, they were just too small for our needs. Too bad because I REALLY liked that 6 speed auto with 310hp, not to mention the full air suspension, nappa leather, and xenons. The GX470 was the next best thing, though, and came with DVD navigation (as opposed to CD in Treg). It also offered the rear seat DVD entertainment which is great.

So all in all, you wouldn't complain about the "I agree" screen?

I complain about the I agree screen ONLY because it comes up even if your not using the Navigation. I really love the features in this NAV screen but they really messed up with some of the defaults and preferences.

A) The NAV Screen assumes you are going to use it every time you start the car. If you plan on using just the radio for weeks, you will still see the I agree screen and you must press AUDIO (do not have to press I agree. Either way you need to press another key. This to me is a bug. The Nav screen should remember the last device you were using and stay put. If I had individual devices in my dash I wouldn't have to worry about this, and the GS Nav screen was always like this too.

B) You cannot turn the voice guidance off, nor can you adjust the volume to off and have it remember.

C) Route Preference (Avoid Toll, Avoid Ferry, Avoid Nuclear Power Plants) settings are hidden and also do not save.

Feature wise, they have brought the lastest to the table. I am hopeful with the next software upgrade (due out this fall) they should have some of these bugs corrected.

Thanks for the help. That is exactly what I wanted to know about the I agree screen - whether you could go to the Audio screen without hitting I agree. Thanks!

you can set it so the radio screen doesnt go back to the nav :) i actully like how it goes back to the map even if you are not useing routeing.. i drove a benz and didnt like their nav, every other car i drove didnt have a nav cd inserted :( wtf is up with that

brent0226 07-14-03 12:32 PM

How do you set that? I thought people said it doesn't remember.... ?

No he is saying that there is an option called screen transition. This switches the screen back to map or route guidance after a certain period of time on Climate Control, Audio or any other screen.

My point was when you first turn on the car, the Nav I Agree message appears every time. There is no way to avoid this. YES, you can hit a button such as Audio, Climate, etc and it will go directly to these functions. But point is, this to me proves the License Agreement is not for everything on the screen, just the Navigation. That being the case, if they could simply remember the function left on when turning off the vehicle life would be better;)
