Safelite Auto Glass?
Any thoughts on Safelite for windshield replacement, specifically relating to installation on a genuine Lexus windshield? I have heard mixed opinions on Safelite but it seems to be primarily related to aftermarket windshields. Any thoughts and / or experiences are appreciated!

I agree request OEM glass. I have no direct experience with them, but a co-worker used them for the windshield on his BMW M3 and told me he got dinged by BMW for it when he returned the lease..

Was that for a Lexus GX? I have read there are differences in tint of the factory Asahi windshield, however, the installer says they are identical. Pilkington and other OEM quality windshields are definitely cheaper though.

Nope, it was on my Accord. It's what the dealership used when I noticed a chip on my glass when I purchased it certified. No issues for over 10 years.

I even asked Safelite if I they would install a windshield I already have and they said no. I was thinking I could get the lexus windshield cheaper than they were charging me, so if I bought it they could install it... no deal.

Twice Windshield replaced by Safelite
I have had the windshield on my GX470 replaced twice by Safelite. Used their glass as the OEM was significantly more expensive. I could not tell the difference other than the name in the corner from the OEM when I replaced the first time. The two times replacement was from debris on the freeway.

I have Safelite glass in my GX. They claim their GX glass is OEM-spec and my insurance company would only cover that cost. The delta between Safelite's glass and dealer OEM was dramatic ($500+) so I went with Safelite's. It seems fine so far, and looks the same as what came out (though I may have had aftermarket glass in before, too - I have no idea what the previous owner did).

It's great that you're looking for input on windshield replacement. When I needed a windshield chip repair, I discovered A Chick and a Windshield in Colorado Springs goo.gl/maps/3Q66jCaUh85vaU3b9. They specialize in windshield repairs, and their service was top-notch. While I can't speak specifically about Safelite's experience with genuine Lexus windshields, my positive experience with specialized professionals like Achick and a Windshield might suggest that seeking out experts in windshield repairs could be a solid option.

When it was new, I insisted on OEM, just did another replacement, truck is 15 years old….I went with whatever was available….I can still see through it. It’s a simple replacement compared to “modern” cars.

I am on 3rd windshield, and now need a 4th. 1st two were Lexus glass, 3rd was Safelite glass. No issues. Safelite glass actually took on some good rocks and some chips in glass, but no cracks formed from those chips. I am satisfied with Safelite glass.

Glass not as important as the quality of install, last time safelight did it, windshield leaked, not thoroughly sealed, and they broke plastic trim around wipers, found the rubber trim inside the engine, and reused molding across the top. Was not a pleasant experience.
