Running Fan and Low Coolant
Hi all, I have an 09 Gx 470. The large fan is making a squeaking noise and is constantly running. What is this fan’s function? Should this fan be running all the time? I also notic d my coolant has been getting low quicker than usual. The car does not appear to be over heating. The temp gauge is normal.

The “large fan” always spins. It has a viscous clutch that engages to draw air across the condenser and radiator based on engine temp. If you’re losing coolant, make sure it has no external leaks, radiator leaks are fairly common on these trucks.

There is a thermostatic clutch on the main cooling fan - you can hear the difference when it engages (more of a "roar")
It shouldn't squeak, and you shouldn't be losing coolant.
Check along the edge of the radiator for red "crystals" - when the radiator leaks, it usually does it along the join from the aluminum fins to the plastic end caps, and it'll build up deposits there.
Check your garage floor for drips as well (the A/C condensate from front & rear A/C units is normal - it's plain water).
Also - have you had your timing belt replaced yet? One of the things that should have been changed out is the tensioner. It can squeak just before it goes bad.

I was thinking it could be the timing belt. I will check for leaks on the floor and take a look at the radiator for leaks as well. I haven’t noticed anything but haven’t really monitored for leaks. I never really noticed that’ fan runs all the time until the noise.
