Which way should the hitch bar go?
If you're using the Lexus hitch bar on a GX or LX, the bar should go "up" and not down.
This is because you want the ball to be around 18-19" above the ground to work with most trailers, so you aren't dragging the safety chains.
The orange card that comes with the Toyota/Lexus bar will have a diagram.

Your towing limit will be the smallest weight rating of all your towing components. So if you have the 6500 pound hitch, make sure the tow bar, the ball, and your locking pin are all rated to at least that much weight.
Shown here is the Toyota tow bar (10,000 pound limit), a 7,500 pound ball, and the Reese lock is a Class V rated up to 12,000 pounds, all on my 6500 pound Lexus hitch.
So my towing limit is 6500 pounds.
