Truck felt like it was looking for a gear while stopped but still in Drive. I thought it might be transmission but now the 4x4 light is blinking. Could it be the transfer is bad and the truck is continuously trying to find a solution?

Blinking full time 4x4 light wouldn't have anything to do with drive line clunk. Why would light be blinking if button
isn't pushed?

IIRC it blinks when it's trying to lock the center diff. Perhaps the seal leaked and the fluid damaged the motor or contacts and now it's stuck? Not sure.

I think that there was a recall years ago for the driveshaft propellor ? I think this causes a thump.
