What would you change on your GX470?
I'm very fond of my truck but if there was on thing I would change about it, it would be the read door. I hate how it opens horizontally instead of up and down like normal SUV's. That door never stays locked in the fully open position and it has closed on me several times when a gust of wind pushes it closed. I'm afraid that one day it will severely injury my kid or my wife. It is not practical and I've never found it beneficial in any way. My dad's 14' GX460 has the same rear door setup so someone at Toyota thought this was a smart move.
Would like to hear what other folks would like to change on their truck.

There's a little 'stopper' that you can engage to keep the door from closing on you. Found this video on YouTube.

Guys not only is it in the "quick start guide" but the instructions are written right on the arm... has everyone else really just cussed at the door for hitting them? One thing (being new to Japanese trucks) I have noticed is they have TONS of instructions and warning stickers on every little thing..!!! Look into the rear door Strut mod
On a Prado: same rear gate but they are lucky in theirs holds the spare!

What would I change on my 2009 GX470
a couple of things
Convenience items:
- A cup holder that is deeper than 1.5 inches
- A USB charger port (in 2009 computers and smartphones existed)
- A turn signal stock that on light engagement blinks four or five times instead of once
- HID lights (on a 50K truck I would expect that)
- Power rear vent windows (hell minivans have them even on the poverty models)
Serious items:
- Spare tire carrier on the rear gate
- A rear gate like the other land cruisers that you open when someone is parked behind you
- A diesel option.. better mileage and longevity
- A no running board, cladding option
- A cloth seat no third row option (i.e. poverty model)
Cant think of anything else that is reasonable
Unreasonable:
- SAS
- full E lockers
- factory clearance for up to 35s at full lock
- V8 turbo diesel option

Totally agree on the center console. Going from a 4Runner to a GX470, I miss the center console storage, especially since I have the DVD player entertainment unit. Have you considered making modifications? I want to keep the OEM looks but have been looking for alternatives.
