GX Muffler Replacement-OEM @ Dealership or Midas ???
Hi Fellas,
I'm looking to have my muffler replace on my GX 2008. I went to two different Toyota dealership and they both told me my muffler is rusted and quoted
me approximatley $900 for a replacement. Should I check out Midas/Mineki for a quote to see if they are cheaper ? My concern is that I know they would install an after market
muffler. Should I be worried about that ? At the end of the day I'm looking for longevity and good service.
Anyone had to replace their mufflers ? Please let me know why I should go with the OEM muffler from Toyota and not after market. Or if it doesn't matter at all.
I'm trying to make the right decision so I don't regret anything in the long run.
Thanks Guys.

I'm in Texas, so no rust here...
Assuming just the parts after the catalyst are bad - OEM parts will be in the $700 range. Plus labor will get you to the $900 quoted.

Mida/Meineke will likely put a "universal fit" exhaust on there, but it can't hurt to ask. Be sure to ask if the parts are bolt-together, or if there will be welding involved (muffler shop welds usually aren't great).

Thanks for the response Chiph9 . I took the truck to Midas today.
Muffler, Pipe assembly, and Tail Pipe need to be replaced. The tail pipe actually came off rusted, and was hanging off from the muffler
The muffler comes with Lifetime warranty and the tail pipe comes with 1 year Warranty. Everything is going to be bolt down as it was originally.
So, I have decided to give the job to Midas.
Much better than what Toyota would have offered me.
Thanks again Chip.
