Default Can my sunroof be replaced with stationary glass?

I have a 2004 GX 470 and the sunroof was stolen out of it. When they took it, they really butchered all of the rails and everything to get it out, I was wondering if its possible to get replacement glass and just have a stationary sunroof, to save $.

Wait - someone stole your sunroof??

Please post pics.

In the meantime, talk to an auto-glass place to see if they have any ideas.

Well that's...weird.

Honestly, your best bet is to just file an insurance claim. It's not likely to total the car.

Default Really Sorry, would you describe what they did?

Sorry, that is really awful. This is so unusual, must be sooo rare, would you describe the situation. Did they break into the car and work on the sunroof from inside?

I dunno. The sunroof mechanism is $700, and if they damaged the headliner, that's another $1200 or so. Plus any damage they did getting *into* the vehicle.
OP should stop by a body shop for an appraisal before going to the insurance company, so the ins.co. doesn't have any records if the damage is excessive and they still want to drive it.

it know it will be possible. I had an older civic and when purchased, the original owner installed a aftermarket sunroof. It works great and was manually operated.

NO!!! Vehicles do build a vacuum difference inside of them. I cant remember what company it was, the glass was just exploding like a bomb at any time! Thats even with tempered glass. Google it. If anything Plexi glass or just fix it. That sucks not just someone had to boost your roof, had to do damage to it. Maybe check on some used part places see if they will ship a used roof

When the Golde manual sunroof bound up and broke in my '75 Volvo I took it all out (more carefully
than OP's villains...) and found a nice Plexiglas with extruded aluminum frame window marketed for
the Hippie Vans of that era and secured it to the opening. Hey, it was a college car and budget!
