cv boots and axles replacement
if your cv boots are detached from seals do the axles need replacement on 2004 Lexus GX470? What are the costs?

The best way to really determine if the axle is bad is to remove it and closely inspect it. If it's just a torn boot you can get get a boot kit for about $20 and do it yourself if you are up for the task. If the axle is bad you can get a used OEM replacement on ebay or buy new aftermarket one and replace it. If you can do it yourself you'll save a lot of money. Can't give you an estimate on mechanic's prices because they all vary.

My boot torn a few weeks back and grease splatted all over. Yours does not look bad. I cant tell if the clamp is loose or if there is a tear in the boot. I replaced mine with a new axle from rock auto and did the tie rod also.

If it clicks when turned full lock, replace the axles.
Inner boots are easier. Outer boots means both inner and outer must be torn down.
Do not waste a penny on a speedie boot with a side clamp. Looks great in the picture but always leaks. Also any torn boot not addressed quickly (outers mainly) will be contaminated with debris and require complete disassembly...
Best advice is buy reman axles and DIY. With the right tools it's a couple hours per side.
Longer if you have to refill diff and/or replace axle seals.
