Default Engine Whine w/video

I think I know what this is but I want to see what you guys say. The noise only follows engine speed and becomes less audible as you go over 2k RPM mostly due to being drowned out by fan noise or road noise. Car has 102k miles

I know there is already another thread about a similar topic but wanted to keep this separate from that.

This is definitely your Alternator. I had exact same howl...

Here is a thread.

I agree with the Sheik. Just had the same issue myself.

You can disconnect the cable from the alternator through the passenger side fender well very easily to diagnose.

You posted(https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...ml#post9701896) that you bought DENSO 210-0607, but all the part suppliers I find online say that Denso 210-0512 is the correct Denso part number. Did you have any problems with fitment with yours?

I'm showing the Denso 210-0512 is for model years 03-06 and the Denso 210-0607 is the correct one for my '08. Don't know if they changed something for '07-08, but does list different part #s.

Just go to Rock Auto and order here is a cut out from my invoice

Once you return the core you will get your 72 back.

As Eddie pointed out, it looks like there is a difference in the PN for 07+ MY. Thanks for your input to confirm my suspicion. I read your thread when you originally made it and that is what led me to know exactly what to suspect when I heard the noise. The alternator I ordered gets here on Saturday and I will change it Sunday; lets see how it goes. I will rebuild the old one and keep it on hand for when I need the next one.

I had the Denso 210-0607 installed in mine last year. 5 months later it was replaced with the diode noise you are hearing lol. I hope you have better luck than I!

Almost 3 months on the latest one so far <knock on wood>.

Ok so it took me 3.5 hours but I replaced the alternator and the noise went away. Had to remove the forward skid plate, FR wheel and access flap, power steering pump pulley, and disconnect the KDSS sway bar from the right side of the car to get the alternator to come out of the bottom.

is this how to diagnose a bad alternator? if the bearing is bad, by disconnection the cable doesn't the pulley still spin and make noise? or is the bearing internal?

The only difference between the Denso 210-0607 and 210-0512 alternators is the 0607 is 190 amp and the 0512 is 130 amp.
It looks like the Alternator amp change occurred mid year on the 2006 models...
although one would think the KDSS models would need the 190 amp.... but I’d stick with Denso’s recommendation.
