Default gx 470 steering rack leaking

Hi guys, my 03 GX I noticed is leaking I believe down from rack to the axle boot cover which is torn as well. I was told new rack, but I believe there is a kit to replace seal on rack. Has anybody done that, and if so any instructions and is it do it yourself or no?

I would just replace the assembly. I have had good luck with Rack Doctor.

Mine is leaking 2007 at 95k miles I have been told to change the whole rack, I have found the boot online for few bucks, since I'm not handy with the cars I can't really do it myself and my mechanic is insisting to change the whole rack.

A steering rack overhaul is not a DIY project. Some people can do it with a lot of special tools. In order to rebuild a steering rack, the rack has to come out anyway. So it ends up being easier/cheaper to replace it rather than send it to someone to replace the seal, after which something else on the rack will probably fail in short order.

Ok thank you guys, I will replace rack. Also on the axle boot I notice its ripped and I am hearing a popping noise sometimes when I turn, is that just the axle assembly I should order?

Yes. As I mentioned on the other axle thread, I used these, they seem to be fine so far:

A good reference on how to change the axle:
