Default What is the best way to install a Winch on the GX?

I am thinking of adding a winch to my GX. For those who have done it, what are my options?
Ideally, i would like to preserve the stock bumper or use something that will not completely change the front of the vehicle.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Dan

You aren't going to be able to preserve the OEM bumper.
If you're OK with a rear-mounted winch and have the frame-mounted hitch, you can get one of the hitch-mount winches and run heavy-gauge wire back to it.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

Chip, with the above incognito, you can keep the stock bumper, albeit with some minor modifications.

I would get the southern style one if you need to keep the stock bumper.

Did anyone ever install the Southern Offroad Incognito hidden winch bumper. I finally decided It is time to add a winch. I really liked the incognito product more than the Budbuilt. But when I went to make the purchase it is no longer available? Did they stop making the mount?

Yeah, they don't sell them anymore. ASFIR makes one - I am not sure if it's plug & play or not, though. http://www.asfir.com/toyota-land%20cruiser%20120/560021

I have a clean used Hidden Hitch. We did front and rear bumpers instead. I would be willing to sell the one I have.

Here is the link to the actual product, I can post up photos later today

Mods, If this is not allowed, Please delete my post.
BTW, We are on the mainland til January 20th or so.. The parts I have left over are in our storage here in CA.

Thanks

JLee50,
I got a response from ASFIR's Import and Export Coordinator:

"Thank you for your interest in our products.
We have never assemble our products on a Lexus GX470 and therefore cannot confirm if they would be suitable."

Thank you for the suggestion.

I know I am resurrecting an old post, but:

How different are the 460 and 470 frame ends and spacing, etc.? I bought the SSO Incognito last year in a group buy, with the expectation of pulling the trigger on a 470... that 470 fell through and I bought a 460, and am wondering if I could use the mount or should I sell it and buy one "for" the 460...

Probably best to check with the manufacturer on that one, very few people will have owned both a GX470 and a 460 and even so much as looked at the frame ends and spacing.

You can probably make one for the 4th gen 4runner fit I would think. As for the 460, it might but hard to say cause the bumper shape is so different (I think it would mount to the frame fine but not 100% on that).

This is just my humble opinion, but if one does enough off-road stuff to need a winch, why not just get an off-road bumper that is designed/made specifically for winch mount and provides better clearance/approach angle?
If one thinks they will keep their stock bumper intact while winching, they are fooling themselves. That stock bumper will be trashed at some point, guaranteed.
Unless one would just mount one strictly for the looks, but never use it for intended purpose, then I would understand. Still, some customization will be necessary.
Again, just my 2 cents...
