Replacing Air Suspension with 4Runner Strut and Coil
Hello everyone,
I have been facing suspension issues with my Lexus 2004 model. I bought it with 110K on the odometer (these forums helped me make the purchase decision)
I live in Nigeria and therefore importation of parts is pretty expensive, so I bought 4Runner Suspension for the rear after reading about it in forums. I am not as knowledgeable about cars (and engineering) as everyone here is and the mechanics are pretty sub-standard too!
So I moved to the 4runner suspension instead of OEM four months ago. The ride quality in the last two months has been terrible and the car has become pretty bumpy. As long as we are on smooth tarmac it is OK but there isn't much of those roads here. So I got the suspension checked and realised that the 4runner coils are spoilt too. The option of getting back to air-suspension doesn't exist, I want to ask this forum what is the best solution for me to tackle the bumpy roads of West Africa?
And can anyone guess how could the 4runner suspension on the car would have spoilt so soon? From what I read it is a durable solution.

I think it was OEM 4runner suspension all these days, but your question made me check and I found out that it is the latter. The coil doesn't look as strong as it should in my opinion.

Since these components are prone to so much heavy use in your part of the world, there are few options better than the OEM parts. OEM parts will give you the best reliability in my opinion, since they are made for a wide variety of conditions and to last until a normal maintenance interval.
